Clio 200 suspension on a 197

Ok so I managed to bag myself some shocks and springs from a 200 Cup and the seller said they were the larger top mounts and would fit the 197 so I could do with someone telling me if they look about right? Also I notice it looks like a nylon ring has broken away on the bump stop (if that is what it is?), will this need replacing? Apologies for dumb questions but worked on the suspension before on these...

Swapped my standard set up for the cup shocks and springs, if anyone is thinking of doing this themselves don't bother, take it the garage and let them do it, never again!

There speaks a man of my own heart.

You dont buy meat from a dentist. And you don't get a gardener to plumb in your new washing machine......

If its 'easy' i'll do it. Apart from that i'd rather do some overtime and leave it to the experts.

I started at 8.30am and finished at 17.00, tackled the drivers front first and that was the worst, I used spring compressors to fully close the spring in and take the whole unit out, once the unit was out it was just the simple job of undoing the top mount nut and taking the top mount off so I could release the springs....that was until the top mount would not come off and I put that much force on it the thread fractured all the way down so then it was the angle grinder through the spring and shock piston!
must say though the rears only took 40 minutes!

Did you have air impact or battery impact gun? It sounds weird that shock nut which is securing top mount is so seized?

These jobs arnt overly hard, issue is people attack them without the right tools and get stuck.
No impact guns, No Swan neck spanners and struggle to remove the top nut.

Not saying this was the case with the op but in general that's where most people get stuck.

No i did not have an impact gun, I had the correct swan neck spanner the problem was the thread was corroded so when I put the allen key socket in it was just rounding off inside..

I would have probably suggested undoing the top nut first, jacking the car off the ground so the strut is under full strain usually helps... That and a healthy dose of WD40 etc. :thumb:

Tried both methods, it was because the allen key hole had rounded in the thread. Sorted with the angle grinder straight through the spring and piston then put the left over piston in the vice and got the nut off with a big breaker bar.
