197 projector headlights...

Hi, have searched and looked through how to forums so apologies in advance if this has been covered somewhere..

I want to change my headlights and have sourced some OEM projector headlights, however before I do this just wanted to check that this will be a straight forward switch over.
As I understand it because I have reflector headlights I don't have cornering lights, and from what I've read the projectors do?
Is this an issue, just a case that those bulbs will be redundant or will the light units not be compatible?
Thanks in advance,
Lee

Cornering lights will be redundant... look up a company called depo. They ship worldwide, and make a projector headlight for the 197

Thanks for reply, I do like the look of the projectors, and these would be at a good price, what I'm really wondering is if all other functions of the light would work exactly as they should and the only downfall be having bulbs in there that are serving no purpose? If so, I could live with that

Make sure you change the leveling motor over from your halogens or you won't be able to adjust the beam height. Other than that, straight swap.

I have moved from reflector headlights to projector headlights it is straight forward but I bought used projector headlights and I would only buy the Valeo or top branded ones unless you have seen and checked the projectors you have or are buying. New headlights will not have the plastic piece riveted under the front of the headlight to grip the bumper and will not have the headlight level motors fitted. I think a good well fitted set of bulbs that are better than standard ones like nightbreakers are good enough I feel illegal HID kits are messy and not worth the trouble and I would advise fitting bulbs before fitting the headlight to make sure they are properly seated as if just a little out can drastically affect the output beam especially the dipped projector H1 bulbs. Use new bulbs as it's a bumper off job especially to change the passenger side.

Awesome, thank you all for your help, will go ahead and give it a go, they definitely give the front end a much meaner and more modern look

I bought second hand valeo projectors , and those had levelling motors+all other parts.
Only thing was i changed fresh bulbs, Osram nightbreaker ultimates + osram led park bulbs.
Easy swap, direct fit.
Look for second hand valeos..

Here's my ex-197 with the Depo projector lights... They were a straight swap, and worked perfectly for the 5+ years I had the in. No issues whatsoever.IMAG1265.jpg4bc7ba0263b93fbcecdca94202d61955.jpg

I love how they look on that, hoping it suits mine better than the reflectors in black!

I managed to pick up some genuine Valeo / Renault ones, so I will de tango them and replace all the other bulbs prior to fitting as I know it's a bumper off job, and that'll be coming off to get sprayed to rid the stone chips it's picked up!

They look dope on a black car. My buddy this side has the same set. The black car actually brings out the black detail inside the light casing...

Good luck with the bumper job... Don't miss those one bit...

I'm excited for your part... Remember making the switch from reflectors to projectors... hands down the best aesthetic mod for a 197...35007bf252eb85e391cbc8c502662a0a.jpg56f09959a969e5c13150a4d8f7320a63.jpg

Can anyone help with this, someone on another thread mentioned needing to use the headlight height motors from standard lights, I have bought used valeos, am I right in thinking these already have everything including the motor as standard meaning they are the same and so I will not need to swap anything over from my old ones? Just direct swap of unit right... pics attached IMG_4515.JPG

What size bulbs are used for which light? How can you tell the required sizes from the back of the casing?

Yes, just a direct swap for your existing ones, it's a bit tricky getting them back in but be gentle as the insides of them are a bit fragile. Just take your time and you'll be fine.

Anywhere that sells bulbs generally will tell you, you can usually put your registration in, select which bulb it is you need i.e. Dip / main and it'll tell you what fitment it is - (unless you've changed standard headlights to xenon or HID obv) that's all I did when I ordered from autobulbsdirect and euro car parts and both were correct!

I've owned all three types of headlight so I know from experience but you can easily find out by using google. Write down what I've listed or bookmark this page so you'll know exactly what you need for future reference. [emoji106]
