What shifts do you work?

Chris

Bad cop
Whether its dayshift, nightshift, early shift, split shift, whatever shift...

What shifts do you work?
Do you like working it?

I work two shifts, one week earlies (6-2) then one week lates (2-10). Repeat.

I enjoy earlies, its a more tiring shift but worth it, finishing at 2, you have the rest of the day too do what you please. Lates on the other hand, I hate, waiting to go to work all morning then by the time you get home its bed time...

Comment!

I've never done shifts Chris. But being an early-bird....i'd hate lates too......

My standard hours are 7.30am - 4.00pm Mon-Fri.

Real-world is whenever until whenever to get the job done. And as i'm paid to be the man to make it happen; its part of my expected remit.

For example i've done 30+ hours of weekend o/time already this month and am working this Sat and both day's the following weekend. So this month will be 60+ hours of weekend work and another 20+ of weekday o/time; over and above standard hours. Probably why i slouch on here doing very little in the evenings......

Every day is different though: from meetings, courses, staff training, quoting, over-seeing jobs, out on site, running our workshop to answering the phone, doing invoicing, ordering materials etc.

95% of the time i love my job.

Well didn't mean shifts per-say just what hours really. Curious to see what people's thoughts on it are.

I'd love to wake up and be happy to go to work, but don't particularly like my job, so I'm envious of anyone who does! (I like some aspects of my job just not enough to say I want to go to work lol)

I'm not an early bird actually either!! The ONLY good thing about late shifts is having a lay in lol!

Easy to get stuck in a rut. And this life isnt a trial-run IMO....

10 years ago through choice; i walked out of a great job with a mortgage, 3 kids, not much savings...and nothing else to go to; just a feeling there was more to life and i was very unhappy where i was. 2 weeks later the phone rang and the rest is history.

To be fair might not have been my smartest move ever - and things could easily have been different.

Props to you there syer! Takes a brave man to do that.

A routine is probably the easiest way to describe what I'm currently in at work... sometimes it's hard to break that routine.

What's annoying is there is potential to progress at my company, but there's a lot of road blocks (management) to hurdle, if only they could get there arses out the way and let me get on with it, we would both be miles better off!!!

I'm out at half seven, home by six but then have site visits to do, invoices and usual paperwork associated with being self employed

I'm an early bird. Like to be working by 07:45 but finishing up at 4ish

Will take on jobs most Saturday's if the price is right

8-30 - 5.00 Monday - Friday. I get up at 6.am and get home at 6.pm. I like having weekends off I couldn't go back to a job where weekends are shifts, not without a huge fight.

I work for a food manufacturing company supporting all the IT equipment in the office and the factory floor.

I do 3 shifts that rotate on a two weekly basis plus one Saturday a month. From the end of October to Christmas is our busy period so I'm usually in pretty much every Saturday. It's nice having all the extra cash for Christmas but it's a fair killer doing 6 day weeks.

Shifts are 05:00 - 13:30, 07:00 - 15:30 and 10:30 - 19:00.

Our standard hours are 8.45am-5pm with an hour's lunch. But as we have flexi-time, I decided to take 30mins for lunch and do 8am-4pm Mon-Thurs, and on Friday 8am-2.45pm, meaning I can be at the golf course by 3.15 and home by half 6

Working 9-5 what a way to make a living

Purely office based so no shifts and solid 9 to 5 on weekdays!
Tho no overtime / flexi which sux

I'm an early bird too, starting 620am and official finish time is 230pm. Job-and-finish means we can go home if we get done early. We do a Mon-Sat week, working 5 days with a rolling day off. I usually work my day off as overtime though. I genuinely enjoy my job and really don't mind at all having to go and do it.

I am definitely in a routine, however I've been burnt before when I've made a big leap to change jobs, so I don't want to fall into that trap again. Sometimes you need to see what you've got and not get hooked on chasing the what might be's. IMO.
