Big Bens non Clio

Gonna feel pretty damn good I think mate. Will be pretty hard though!

Have to say that pic Micah posted of his mates car looked like it was sitting really well! Will get those awesome wheels up close and comfy with the arches like they deserve!

Slightly OT (?)

But why are the spring rates for H+R, Eibach, Cooksport etc etc always stiffer on the back ?

The engine - and hence weight - is at the front; over the front wheels and yet the fronts are softer.....

Is this to keep the weight over the front tyres which drive and steer, to help turn-in, to keep or even increase the rake or ??

Can't help you with the logic...

Totally understand your point though.

Would the damping setup have to be factored in as well though?

*I think B14's are same back and front.

Consider where the spring is mounted in relation to the force applied at the wheel. The springs on the rear are a lot closed to the pivot point on the rear so a stiffer spring is required due to the leverage with the rear axle.

In comparison with the full coilover set i've had built and fitted to my Clio i'm running 600 front and 350 rear due to the fact it's a full coilover set up and the spring is now bolted directly behind the wheel where the damper is bolted rather than having the spring in the conventional location. That is a start to it not taking into consideration different damping. I've got dyno printouts for the dampers on my car so I could find out the values and compare.

Not quite relevant but thought I'd share it as it was so bad!!
Changed the air filter on my Peugeot Van today. Has covered 17,000miles and I've had it from new.
The state of the old filter was horrific:grimacing:
Van now drives like it's been superchipped..!
Maintenance people. Get it done...

Top work.

A "Carbon" filter no less !

***Just not Carbon Fibre mind.

Might get mine out at the weekend and give it a blow out, hoover the airbox and clean and oil the filter. Last time; i found 1/2 a bale of straw in the bottom of the airbox.

Didn't fancy 'k&ning' that bad boy up then? :sunglasses:
I have looked at having it "chipped"
Takes it from 130bhp to 163bhp and bucketfuls of extra torque...
I'm sceptical though mate about those sort of figures if I'm honest

Oh dear! My head is spinning! This is why I stick with standard cup chassis & no spacers etc. you're opening up a real can of worms if you don't know what you're doing (that'll be me!)& I admire all of you guys who can optimise your cars to your own preferences! The likes of me just have to trust the guys in Dieppe! I do know that involves compromise, but then so does anything you do.

Can't hurt to give it a clean out Shuv. Doesn't take long.
Worrying thing for me is that mine wasn't due to be changed until 24k according to service manual!

Johnny I'm no expert either bud. If a big tuning company can develop an aftermarket suspension product and put there name on it... chances are you can trust it.
My car is on tired original suspension I believe so anything is likely to feel like an upgrade:grinning:
Vive la France

Ben, really great to meet you yesterday. I'm not sure if I mentioned it on the day (I certainly *thought* it!) so I'm saying it now... LOVE the wheels. Looks so great next to the Albi. Enjoyed finally seeing them in the flesh. Going to look even better with the drop from the new suspension set up!

Thanks Mes. Enjoyed meeting you and the missus too mate.

Yeah I'm pleased with how the wheels have turned out. For what I paid to get them like that I think they're a bargain...!

Main thing for me yesterday other than meeting some good people, was my car put a huge smile back on my face and made me glad I never dumped it. Performed flawlessly all day and was a close match for the other cars around me which is no mean thing considering her age:smiley:

Few quid on suspension this week should only enhance the driving experience more!

This is what it's all about mate! Dead pleased to see that comment. And yep, if she held her own yesterday then it sounds like she's back to good health again.

Suspension will totally transform it I think!

That's really good to hear Ben, really glad that you're falling back in love with the Clio! They do have that special something that just gets under your skin. They can be troublesome at times, and a worry a lot of the time, but especially on a good drive out you realise why you put yourself through it

This evening my dear old Nan Elsie died. She was 92

She had suffered from Parkinson's for the last few years and it has been hard to see her deteriorate the way she did.

She was brave to the very end and I can only hope that when my time comes I can show the same courage and dignity that she did.

Life sucks at times. I've lost both my Nans in the space of 8 weeks.

RIP Elsie

Sorry to hear about your nan Ben. Parkinson's disease is horrible. My dad had it for around 20 years before he died. Be thinking about you. On a happier note it was good to meet you yesterday & I'm glad you're falling back in love with the Clio. It just takes a good hoon down some country lanes. Like the wheels too!
