Cold start gear not shifting

Hello guys
I have a question if any one can help me
My RS200 is 2012 and I did only 25xxxkm

But for few months a have notice that once I start the car on a cold start I can't shift to any gear but once the car is warm it is back to normal

I toke it to the agent and they told me I need an overhaul for the gear which I am refusing to do that with my mileage

Ps I change the oil gear already and still the same

Hi Hamad, the gearbox can be very reluctant when they're cold, but do get better was they warm up. How long do you have to wait until you can select gears without difficulty/how long does it take to warm up?
 
Around 10mins maybe and sometimes it is fine after a cold start but once I stop at traffic light It shift but with difficulty, once warm everything back to normal

Sounds fine tbh. I always give the gearbox a little stir when starting the car first thing before moving off.

It does sound very similar to mine to be honest. It can be embarrassing when I have a passenger in and I'm stuck at a green light not getting it in gear :smile: I wouldn't worry too much about it - if you are having crunches when changing gear, that would be a cause for concern, otherwise it does sound like it's just a characteristic of the Clio box!
 
Gearboxes are very temperamental from cold... whacking it between 3rd and 4th a few times usually helps with mine first thing in a morning when it's cold :smile:
 
Tight gearboxes and kangaroo'ing when cold is pretty common, it amazes me how backwards Renault went on the mk3 as all the gearboxes in all my old clio's were spot on, serious penny pinching me thinks. :money:

I've found letting it idle for a few minutes and pumping the clutch a few times seems to help, would be interested to know if anyone has tried any other gearbox oils to see if it made any difference?

I think quite a few people have tried different oils in the box, with varying results. I tried something else, but honestly couldn't notice much of a difference. I agree though that letting things warm through is the best way to avoid any awkwardness from cold.
 
I found this some years ago, trying to research this exact problem, unfortunately I cannot remember which site it was on. I simply copied and pasted the quote without reference and filed it. Perhaps an engineer or trained mechanic might glance over it, to see if it might make sense in relation to this problem.

"Finally, dealer managed to replicate problem when in for 37.5K service. Technician, who had recently moved from another main agent said he knew what was wrong. A known issue, involving inadequate (possibly no) lubrication of the gearbox input shaft on original assembly. As a result, the clutch plate sticks on the shaft, causing clutch drag, and hence the difficulty engaging 1st and reverse.

They took the gearbox out, lubricated the input shaft, and solved the problem.

This explains why the problem is fixed with a clutch change - most mechanics will lubricate the input shaft before they put the gearbox back in. However, the actual 'fix' is a result of the lubrication, not the new clutch."
