Door drop - what to do

Hi all,
So the dropped door is starting to grate on me, tried some cautious jacking with it almost shut last weekend and got scared with the amount of force it was taking with no movement.

Is it a case of slackening off the hinge bolts on the car body side and lifting up slightly?
Am I right in thinking this is pain with arch liner removal to get access?

Cheers

Rob

I tried to fix my drivers door but don't want to break the hinge the proper way is to take the wing off to get at the hinge to the body nuts. What I did was put a block of wood to the back of the top hinge and hit it forward to the front of the car it lifted the door up to meet the striker a little better but not perfect here are the official documents. The second diagram shows the scope of adjustment, were the hinge bolts to the door there is no adjustment pulling on the doors I don't think is a way to fix a modern door a car body shop might do such a job as it's a thing they deal with every day and might have the technique or tools to do it quicker than a dealer.

Got pissed off and just grabbed bottom of door and pulled up.there was some movement probably in hinge pin and fits a bit better now

OK I fixed mine tonight what I did was while changing the front springs I removed the rear part of the front wheel arch liners which means both because the front overlaps the rear one you know at the vent. Grab a ring spanner you can reach the two bolts on the lower hinge and the forward bolt of the upper hinge. Just loosen them off just a bit so the door does not drop when you open it and as a precaution don't let go of the handle so you can support the weight of the door. When you open the door not enough to get in but you can pull upwards no need to go very hard at it but you should start to see a difference I went a little higher and then came down a bit but when I was happy I closed the door and went round and tighten up the three bolts to the same as they were before and the job was done did not need to take the wing off like the service book says to do.

Don't go swinging on the door cars have moved on and the hinges are not like cars of the 1980's you'll wind up breaking something.

It's not a hard job but removing the rear part of the arch liner is a little difficult to flex over the internal wing lip be carful not to split the wing or the arch guard after that it's easy. At this time of year use a heat gun at low setting or blow heater to warm the plastic so it flexes more and less likely to split.

Thanks a lot for the info guys, once the weather warms up I’ll be tackling it.
My xenons have started blinding everyone now 2 weeks before the MoT so I’ll be trying to sort that first.

Just an update for anyone looking to sort this it really was a 15min job on the drive, jack car up front corner and remove front wheel, remove inner arch liner fixings (bottom torx through lip of the wing) and the other 2 plastic fir trees should tease out, flex the back of the liner out of the way carefully (helped it was a warm day) to get access to the door fixings.
Use a ratchet 13mm ring spanner to loosen both bottom fixings and the only top fixing you can get to until almost fully free spinning, open the door slightly and lift up from the bottom by hand, mine took a bit of a shove to jolt upwards and stay there, try closing a few times and adjust to suit. Once happy with the position retighten bolts and replace arch liner and wheel. Can’t believe I’ve put up with it for this long!!!
