Big Bens non Clio

Update: Had Gazgold coilovers fitted Sunday by a friend of @Micah
Everything came apart nicely. Easiest 197 he’s ever worked on!! Good start
Also found an oil breather pipe had come loose so reattached that which has helped the car run better imo

Today was Geo setup.

Went to Mark Fish Motorsport. Heard great things about his attention to detail and professional approach. Can’t say I was disappointed! Fabulous to talk to and really enjoyed the afternoon. Couple of things he pointed out and adjusted as well as setting up the new suspension.
Decided on 2.5 degrees of neg camber at the front to be getting along with.

Car has never felt so good handling wise. Gagging to get it back out on track now.

Couple of pics

Thanks for looking

looks similar to mine..Might have a little play with it before Snetterton..how do you find it??believe this set up is very firm...

Looks great, looks to be sitting very nicely!
Thanks mate. Yeah sits well lol

I didn’t specify spring rates as stiff as other track cars run Pav. On soft setting the ride is comfier than my old setup but on halfway today it’s slightly stiffer. Once on track I’ll go about 5/6 clicks ffh and should be spot on

that's perfect..soon you will know exactly what setting to go for..looking forward to seeing her in the flesh again...

How is good Mark doing? I haven't been there for years but he was the one who supplied and fitted my suspension. Great chap and he knows his stuff, shame his rates are too high!

Car is looking great Ben, let me know when you are planning to hit the track, i might tag along:smile:

He seemed pretty happy to me mate!

Definitely knows his stuff as you say. Labour wise he was actually a bit less than he quoted on the phone! (Still expensive)
But being local to me and available I took the plunge.
Be good to see you out on a track. Few of us doing Snetterton 22/7. I’ll let you know what others I’ll be doing after that as well.

Great update Ben, i'm so glad you kept the car and using it as you wanted (more importantly getting back on track, where you and the car belong  )

Sunday update:

Had an early morning testing session on my private racetrack to see how much difference the Gazgold coilovers have made.

Having had new anti roll bars and anti rotation links fitted as well I was hoping it’d feel good and it does. Steering response is excellent. Tracking is spot on. Very happy

Adjustment on the damping is great to have. Started on 16 clicks from full hard and was surprisingly comfortable. Soaked up bumps and cracks nicely without ever being too soft. Definitely my go to road setting. Ended up at 10ffh front and 8ffh rear and that was about my tolerance level!! Slightly over firm for road use and found the car more liable to ‘tramlining’ (negative camber not helping maybe?)

Cant quite comprehend what full hard on a trackday will feel like?! Will probably require buckets and harnesses to keep me from sliding around:wink:

Thanks for looking

Glad to hear you're finding that set up with the slightly softer springs a good compromise for road and track enabling you to use the damping to set it perfect for both. Looking forward to snetterton now?

I think the spring rates have paid off mate. So far so good

Yeah Snetterton can’t come soon enough. Love the track, and the fact that a few other knobheads off here are going should make for an enjoyable day!

Looking forward to meeting you on a trackday soon with your new car.

Update:
My calipers needed tidying up a bit so having ummed & ahhed for a while on refurbing in a colour or new I’ve just been lazy and ordered new red brembos with rears to match. Decided to get new genuine plain rear discs as well. Quite a big outlay but hopefully get a bit back off my old calipers to offset some of the cost.

Looking further ahead I’d like some seats(prob Recaros) for a bit more support on trackdays. That will then require harnesses and either a harness bar or cage! Clubsport look is probably the goal so rear carpet and harness bar leading at the minute

Some lighter wheels would be nice always on the lookout.

Then the big one.... forged engine with hybrid turbo:sunglasses:

It’s only money...
