Has your gearbox been replaced? Yes or no?

07 plate with 82k on the clock and approx 20 track days under its belt... still on original box. However! - 3rd gear is non existent and it only stays in 4th on very light throttle. I'll click on the 'Yes' option once it gets replaced in a few weeks

    Dephaser solenoid loose

How would the car run if the solenoid wasnt bolted down and could move around?

    Dephaser solenoid loose

Crap? You're being very polite! Its the type of job I'd usually have done myself, but circumstance didn't allow for it at the time. It's my own fault for getting it done 'cheap'. But I'll sort it. Oh- and forgot to add the main job to the list- gearbox rebuild! 3rd gear isn't there anymore...

Finally time to get the 197 back on the road and more importantly, the track!

    Dephaser solenoid loose

Hello! I've been a member since 2010 but not been online for over 4 years. My 197 got parked up about that time and not turned a wheel since! Except to trailer it to my new house. Basically I had the dreaded dephaser rattle and decided to get it replaced before it failed. I used a local garage...

    Top gear June 26th

Oh I know it'll only get another 10 or so bhp from renault with the blower- for the same reason the 197 and 200 didn't get more power- so it fits in with the rs range. It's needs to be slower than the Megane or it makes their flagship car pointless. But at least it'll improve torque and make it...

    Top gear June 26th

Agree agree agree!! The performance figures for both cars say it should have eaten the fiat as well! And everywhere but accelerating from low down it will! My 5 weights 850kg, so nearly 500kg lighter! As seen as bits keep dropping off everytime I drive it it's probably even lighter now ! :D...

    Top gear June 26th

Oh- and the fact I've just been at Santa Pod and managed a best of 15.6@89mph ain't exactly convincing me the car is quick either. Not when my standard 26 year old renault 5 can do it in 15.1@94

    Top gear June 26th

I'm not disputing for 1 second how good a car the 197 or 200 are! They are brilliant to drive, I've not driven anything else that turns in so well or is so balanced, and yes, when driven well are more than a match for much more exotic tackle on the roads. BUT that does not change the fact they...

    Top gear June 26th

My point exactly foxspeed- it did get outgunned, and no, it's not fine, it's an example of the clios main weakness of seriously lacking power low down.

    Top gear June 26th

I dunno what everyone is getting so upset about- they basically said the 200 is a great drivers car but heavily underpowered and the interior is dull- spot on assessment if you ask me. They also pointed out the clios slowness wasn't helped by the fact James May was driving it. But let's be...

Help needed for a friend in Bristol please. Recommend a garage?

A friend of mine had the battery light come on the dash of their 1999 Ford Mondeo earlier tonight. Prob just the battery dying, but it could be the alternator at fault etc..... Anyway, she needs the car daily to get her and her baby daughter around and is looking for a very quick, cheap, hassel...

building track 197 from motorsport shell

Awesome project fella. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread and look forwards to seeing the car in the flesh at a track day before too long. Hope it all goes well for you :)

    i want rid now!!!!

I dont get it. You say you want rid of the 197 cos it costs too much in one breath, then talk about a works Copper or a R32 in another! You say u want something fast and comfy not fast and cheap. Comfy = weight. Weight = bigger engine to go fast. Bigger engine = more money to run. IMO you...

    Sometimes it's the little things...

Almost, a 1986 C reg Renault 5 GT turbo :D Every car I've owned and just about driven does it though, water that the wipers displaces running across the drivers window. It used to drip straight onto the electric window switches in my pug 406 coupe, nice!

    Sometimes it's the little things...

When it rains, and you open the front windows you don't get a river of water pouring into the car. God bless you Renault and your snazzy windscreen seal design team :) Has anyone else noticed any neat little touches on the car that make u go yeah, now that's a good idea?
