Belt whines/rubbing on idle - new cambelt at 9k!?!?

Since ive had my 200 the belts have made a slight whining/rubbing noise when idling.. I let it go for a while because it didnt seem that bad.

Got really loud last week so took it to renault, they replaced the aux belt but it still did it, so now they are replacing the cambelt and fitting modified tensioners.. Apparently its a common thing on Meg 250's but not Clios?

Anyone had this too?

Oh, and my car was an ex-demo, I'd imagine the 4k miles it had on it when i picked it up might have something to do with it..

Most of these engines whine when cold, does your noise happen when warm too?

Mines had a sort of ticking noise from the belts area for a few months now, seemed to be a bit tempremental and would only sometimes do it. I took it to mark fish motorsport (renaultsport specialist) and he said it's probably not too much to worry about and extrememly unlikely to be anything cambelt related even at 30k miles. Since he said that i've been driving it like I always do and had no problems.

Going to get it checked out properly at the next service though and hopefully can get some answers as it does slightly worry me still

Cambelt it is.. Getting replaced tomorrow with modified tensionors..

Our 200 whines on start up (When its cold) but goes away after 30 seconds.

Yeah its not that noise I meant, mine does that too.. still dont know what it is but its pretty normal (iirc) for 197/200s

I wouldn't be too worried about it, my dad's tt had to have a new tensioner and cambelt on it due to noise when it was 2 years old and that was a much dearer car and supposidly better build etc.

another audi myth......plenty of the 20v engines waters pumps fail and damage the belt and blow the top end apart :'(

Well, think i've got this problem now.
No strange noises @ start up but when the engine's warm there's definitely a whining/rubbing noise from under the timing belt cover.

Since I still have a few weeks of warranty left better contact the dealer asap...

I can already hear their thoughts, ... oh no here he is again...
Good Heavens not much luck with this car :''''(

BTW 31000 km on the counter: about 19000 miles
