Sold the Meglio Cup Car... Now project 205...

Hi,

This is my project thread for my Clio 197. I now own Jake Honours ex michelin road cup series car from Jade Developments. I had plans to build one, but with this one almost ready it made sense to have it fixed up and a few extra parts added.

Current spec of the car:

Bare shell build from a standard 197
Glacier White and AMG grey interior/cage

R019 safety devices cage
Bimarco seats/omp harnesses
Plumbed in extinguisher system
Master cut off/ pump override and fan override
Cup racer roof scoop

22r green Cup racer wheels
Nankang AR1 225 45 17 tyres
R3 access bilstein coilovers with adjustable topmounts
Gripper Plated Diff, first of a new batch developed at Jades

R3 airbox
Milltek manifold back exhaust

I love going to the Nurburgring, I bought this to replace my heavily modified Subaru Impreza. I was disappointed with the 8.16 BTG due to the weight of this car. My previous ring car was a stripped/caged 205 with 1/3 the bhp. It managed a respectable 8.25 BTG with hard tyres and generally basic spec.

My goal is to officially go sub 8 in a standard engine 197.

When I went to see it, it needed some tlc, including a respray!

So this evening I began working on the r3 box. Luckily found a thread after of the lovely yellow 200 so will attack it tomorrow with the inspiration!

I am enjoying tidying up around the car, in a few weeks it will be on the road . I need to bed the diff in so I am looking for an afternoon on track when I can get time off work.

Lovely looking car, oh I'd be so tempted to go for an r3 airbox. Health to enjoy.

Few more bits done at the weekend. Visited my friends at Ramair for some bits to tidy up loose ends, not far from firing up again!

Spacers I ordered today, 18mm front hubcentrics and 10mm rear stub spacers. I went slightly wider on the front to get a similar ratio of track to a cup racer, I know there's more to it than that but I don't consider the roll centre correction to be worth the hassle involved!

Here is my lightweight battery from eBay

attachment.php

I found a thread earlier stating the standard heater unit and ducting is 7kg... So less tempted to replace it with a less functional one just to save 5kg (most ducting removed etc)

Will weight everything I have removed from intake system etc including standard battery.

On the right track to a bit of weight loss, hoping to get it under 1200 with driver

Picked up a little bargain...! All spacers and studs have cost about £120, happy enough. The other 197 is running 20/25mm eibach hubcentrics, more for the look, they really would be too wide with the AR-1s

I made this little tool for fitting my 18mm spacers. They are machined for a 15mm hub protrusion. So I laser cut 5 acrylic circles to use as a template when grinding off the excess protrusion from the hub. Larger diameter at the base to allow for a chamfer, 60.1 centre bore

So I decided on a 172 header in the end, it is a little bigger than expected, however the location is good. The headlights can be changed easily still, and in my opinion not as cluttered as before. Further updates on completed battery relocation to come next.

Hopefully fire it up this weekend

Excuse all the mess, here is my hubs finished, spacer fits perfectly.

Love how the front end looks now, no more typical wheel lost in the arch!!

The protrusion is a lot longer than it needs to be, most likely for locating, of course no issues now as I am fitting studs .

Rear stub spacers were such an easssssy job, quite surprised, but then it should be for reshimming between races!

Battery relocation done, it fired up first time after a few weeks in the garage! Everything is nice and accessible. I have mounted the battery in the glovebox on an OBP mount

would love to hear some feedback on those AR-1's.

Yeap full review will be on its way in the next couple of months. I am running at Combe on the 4th, then hoping brands of the 25th of oct for a full day, weather depending I will be able to try them.

One good thing worth noting is the size of the tyres. They are no different in overall height to a worn set of 215/45 tyres on the car, these are 'larger' 225/45. The tread is a lot wider but rolling radius similar to a 215/45

Few more pics of wiring and batter for those interested. Really chuffed the little battery is all good.

I bought the Italian spoiler, shame there is no weight for compare to the genuine spoiler, unless someone knows??

I fitted a genuine one to the cup and the fit of this is actually better, I also love the smooth end caps. All the pros of a cup racer spoiler, without the mounts that damage the boot lid!!

When fitted it won't touch the rear brake light. The genuine one required a lot of bending to get it to sit right

Still waiting on bits and bobs at the minute, but I had a think about what to do with the holes in the dash!!

So I have woken up this morning with very itchy arms, but this is what I've been upto..

Looks not too bad! Carbon is a pain in the ar*e to cut when armed with a pair of scissors!
