Me again.... remap question

Hi folks,

So, despite my slight concerns about the power curve on the 197, I'm still very much looking in to buying an F1. My question for today is, how effective is a remap in freeing up mid range torque and most importantly, how savage are the insurance implications to having a remap carried out. Are there any specific insurers who specialise in policies for remapped cars?

Thanks for your time and patience folks!

Jon

Not too sure on an answer for your first question but on the second I can help.

Its all dependent on which insurance companies you are with. Some are mod friendly others arent. I had a Corsa VXR which I had remapped. At the time I was with Greenlight. They asked what sort of power increase I'd see and as it was below a certain value (Below 50bhp) they only charged me £25 to add it onto my modification list and send me the documents again.

Theres no chance remapping a 197 is gonna get you even 10bhp so dont imagine it'll be much more in you instance.

Thanks for the response. That sounds pretty familiar now you mention it - I remember enquiring with my insurance company as to how much remapping a Golf GTI would be. What with the turbo, it would have hiked the power up but 40-45bhp (according to the tuners). It double the insurance :S

I'm loving your car by the way!

well not to mention a 10k car you'd lose out on, but when you run someone over, or write someone elses car off, the insurance company, as we all should know, will do ANYTHING possible to wriggle out of paying out. and getting the car fully checked out will be included in this.

So, I have a bit of info on this. My insurance company have said that as I will not be upping the power by 10% or more, a remap will add about £40 annually to my insurance. Result! The 197 is calling...

Tell them it will be about 185hp after the map, you want money back because it's still not hitting factory claims haha.
