Trackspec Clio 197

Great car mate!
Thanks mate.

Small update: The car is going in for the roll cage fitting next week and to be sprayed inside in RB. Looking forward to having it done.

Also picked up a pair of brand new hub carriers the other day for an absolute steal so despite mine being fine I couldn't resist for the price.

Big update coming soon and some picks of the cage fitting.

Will have a few parts available soon if anyone is interested in a recently rebuild early TL4 box with a new Quaife diff, Clio cup racer exhaust system, Clio cup racer V6 airbox, 197 engine with remapped ECU and ported inlet which made 207bhp with printout and 4-2-1 exhaust manifold. Everything will be available shortly.

I've mentioned for a while now that I was planning on more power and I have since been offered and done a deal with Sean197 on his full turbo conversion. It's a different direction for me going from N/A to Turbo but it seems to be the most logical way of moving the car forward to where I want it to be. The cars going in to the body shop this Wednesday for the cage weld in and will be sprayed this month too so looking forward to getting it looking good again!

Sean's engine made healthy power so should certainly help for next years Time Attack. I'll be removing the old engine and gearbox next month and am planning on refreshing the front suspension at the same time.

Does anyone know what the torque limitation is on the 197 gearbox? Since I already have a Quaife diff fitted to my current gearbox. I believe Sean's engine made 277bhp / 285lbft. If it's not suitable then I will be ordering a Gripper diff for the 225 box.

went to rst a couple of weeks ago and had a chat with the boys in the garage..1st thing they told me was to use a meg box when doing a meg swap..take it leave it but that was their answer..
im more than happy with my meg box as it is a much better and stronger box for sure..also can be had for about 500quid with lsd...

Is it just the R26 box with the LSD?

Good advise @Pav and sell me the quaife @trackspec197

P.S. I'm going to ambush that delivery van with the turbo engine at the Forth Road Bridge haha @trackspec197
Well it might be up for sale shortly!

Haha I'll be making the long trip myself and as part of the deal to keep the Mrs happy I've got to treat her to a weekend in Edinburgh! Still if it means sign off I don't mind lol.

Mines 280+bhp and similar torque. Open diff cars done 10k track mainly and been fine. Ive now got a gripper diff for mine. This will put allot more strain on the box so im also interested to find out. People say meg box but i daily my meg rs and can see why but its so wrong in a clio. Your essentially driving a megane in a clio shell which isnt allot of weight difference either bare in mind.

Caught up with my mate Floyd yesterday who has carried out many Clio/Megane conversions for both Ktec and Four Ashes Renault and he sees no reason why I couldn't / shouldn't use the Clio gearbox. He did suggest for me to look at the TL4 gear ratios which luckily I managed to find on here. I've used a calculator to calculate these and here are the results based across all 3 versions of the gearbox against the lower rev limit. All are set against 215/45 17 tyres:

TL4 003:
1st 11/35 (34.7mph @6500)
2nd 19/37 (56.4mph @6500)
3rd 29/43 (74.4mph @6500)
4th 34/41 (91.5mph @6500)
5th 38/39 (107.6mph @6500)
6th 39/34 (126.6mph @6500)
FD: 16/69

TL4 024:
1st 11/35 (34.7mph @6500)
2nd 19/37 (56.4mph @6500)
3rd 29/43 (74.4mph @6500)
4th 34/41 (91.5mph @6500)
5th 35/34 (113.6mph @6500)
6th 37/30 (136.1mph @6500)
FD: 16/69

TL4 031:
1st 11/37 (32.8mph @6500)
2nd 19/40 (52.4mph @6500)
3rd 27/41 (72.7mph @6500)
4th 34/41 (91.5mph @6500)
5th 35/34 (113.6mph @6500)
6th 37/30 (136.1mph @6500)
FD: 16/69

My current gearbox is the 003 and my spare gearbox is the 031 so I'll need to decide which will best fit this. I've made the assumption that the Megane limiter will be set to 6500rpm I might be wrong so correct me if I am. Looking at these results it seems the best fit would be the 024 since the 003 has a lower top speed and the 031 has lower ratio 1,2,3 gears resulting in quicker changes.

Anyway I thought this might be quite useful to share.

Thats what I meant when i asked if the box your quaife was fitted to was a 03,24 or 31.

Wasn't it more for strength rather than gear ratios that people are saying to use the Megane box for?

It's more than likely for strength purposes but what I keep hearing from people that I would consider experts in Renault is that the TL4 is a little unknown and should/could be fine to use. The big problem with the TL4 is the 3rd gear synchro The reason I'm keen to stick with the TL4 over the Megane box is I would like to retain the urgency and as much of the Clio driving experience as possible but just want a lot more power lol.

I may change my mind... we'll see!
