Just as a heads-up. APEX Nürburgring will soon have a track prepared 200 available in their fleet and it's even an RHD one.

So, if you're planning to do some laps with a proper car you know where to go now.

Note: I'm not affiliated to them or get anything for posting this.

I wonder what the upkeep is on this car: that will get thrashed to within an inch of its life nearly every day by a variety of drivers.....

I’ve done many trackdays on bikes years ago, and also know the cost (In money and labour) keeping an enduro / off road bike ‘tip-top’.

Wonder if it’s as much as you imagine......

They've multiple rental cars like a VW up!, Polo and Golf GTI, Seat Cupra, Toyota GT86, BMW 218, M2 and M4 plus other cars like two McLarens, a Ferrari 458 and a few BMW M3 that they either operate as taxis or that you can rent for trackdays only.

They also have their own garage and mechanic (a guy from the UK by the way) so they're able to do many things on their own and I'd guess they also get great prices for parts and such.

I don't know but they seem to make a profit with their cars. I'd guess the pricing is adjusted to the respectively generated costs.

You can check their prices at the following link if you like.

It's the same for all of the rental cars around there Shuv, they also are data-logged though, due to people getting wrong gears etc, so they can quickly find out of any problems that occur and charge people accordingly (there is a massive excess on each car).

Also people have ragged them around Adenau and other surrounding areas, which gives bad rep to the company but also more strain on the car (as you rent according to how many laps you want to do) so another reason why they are data logged.

They are driven hard, but maintained highly, a reason why the price is quite high to rent them.

Cheers for the info.

I kinda guessed all that - and didn’t think for one minute it was all left to chance by the ‘hirers’.

And I’d never looked; but could well imagine the hire prices are reasonably eye watering because of the above.

IF you had time and money to burn and this was your hobby, it would still be interesting to know the costs of a well used / well thrashed and much enjoyed 200 used day-in and day-out around the ring: and what it would cost per lap etc.

Depreciation, fuel, tyres, suspension components. Engine rebuilds, any crash damage, brake pads aplenty, reg oil and fluid changes....

My limited bank balance is shrivelling up at the thought of it !

it's more aimed at people who want to fly out, do a few laps and go home, knowing that they actually have insured for a TF (Touristfahren) days, as not many if any insure non-German people any more, so a little crash could outdo the excess, so a big crash would ruin most people financially!

Yeah I would also like to know day-to-day running costs of one of these too.

I just looked at Apex's prices and their excess, holy shit!!!!

I know it is "up to" on the excess, but that is absolutely BONKERS! When Dale (runs BridgeToGantry blog) worked at Rent4Ring it was no where near that, when we went up to see him, I was tempted at the Suzuki Swift Sport, as it looks like loads of fun!

That’s made my eyes bleed !

Presumably ‘average Joe’ can’t even consider affording / risk having to pay the excess with real hard cash.

So; in reality do you have to insure yourself against that eventuality too ?

I wouldn't be brave enough to risk it. €1000+ recovery fee off of the ring is enough of a put off right now!!!

Could have gone out this week with some friends, but it's an expensive trip and another big stress on the car, not sure if I'm ready for that straight after the issues I had on the way home from Spa...

Great idea in principle if you don't own a decent car or if you want to know you'll be able to get home after a few laps, but not for me. I'll wait until I'm happy the car isn't playing up and take it out there after the summer maybe.

If you are going to do it, get onto DN (Destination Nürburgring) Trackdays, some lovely machinery, not overly sold (so it's not crowded, some trackdays are over-sold and it's so packed you cannot even drive it properly) then you can get trackday insurance at the Ring! If I go back, I am considering this!

Mate of mine has been recently and hired an M4. He's going to get SO much ribbing now I know how much he paid for it. BLOODY HELL!

He could have bought a 182 and driven the wheels off it and then set fire to it at the end of the day for the same price!
