FIA WEC / World Endurance Championship

Absolutely, something like the old Grp 5 cars would be amazing (yes that's a Capri):

but in all honesty I'd settle for GT1-type cars.

ANY of those Zakspeed cars makes me weak at the knees. Sat here staring at that for ages.

But yep, this is a VERY exciting development for WEC. They needed to do something though, LMP1 is a farce at the moment since the German manufacturers pulled out.

@///M ... @Sean197 ... and all others who have an interest in real race cars ...

not the best video and the plan was to film the start and see (about) thirty cars thunder up the raidillon, but my sh*te phone decided it didn't want to focus in video mode first. just when i wanted to throw the damn thing onto the track, it decided to play. i also thought portrait mode would be a good idea. seeing it now, i'm not so sure anymore ...

i went to the spa-classic event this weekend. one of the races is for group C cars built between 1982 and 1993. about thirty cars took part. there was a bentley speed 8 and a pug 905 evo 1, but i didn't see them on track. the bentley was in pieces on saturday and i didn't even see it on sunday. the pug just didn't drive. lots of jags and porsche 962's though. and spice group C1 and C2 of course.

oh, took the hasselblad and shot 14 rolls of 120 film. won't see the results before the end of the month (processing and scanning takes a while). if there's something worthwhile in there, i'll post a few in here.

@peter wow. Bloody amazing mate. How lucky you are to live so close to one of the greatest circuits on the planet. LOVE the video. It's just not the same these days!

Really looking forward to your photos. I'm sure they're as excellent as always.

Thanks mate!

cheers mate. only thing missing was boesel and brundle behind the wheel.

in a different race there was an alfa romeo T33/3 from 1969 competing, with emmanuele pirro behind the wheel. saw him prepare on the pre-grid, very relaxed. lots of people came up to him asking for a signature and he was posing for selfies all the time. then the (audi) cap went off, kiss for the missus, frown on the forehead, helmet on, belts tightly fastened and off he went. got the car up from P5 to P2 in no time, but then had to hand over the car to his teammate (probably the owner of the car), who was fifteen seconds a lap slower. was brilliant to watch the 5-time le mans winner at work.

Fantastic mate. That's cool that you got such intimate details as watching Pirro putting his race face on!

The only time I've ever seen historic stuff on track was at Goodwood. I'd absolutely LOVE to see a 962 actually racing at Spa.

Was watching this on the TV the other night but had the sound down as Mrs M was on the phone. MY GOD the Porsche!!! % cars around it and it's the only thing you can hear! I've heard these in the flesh enough to know that thing is LOUD!!! Love it.

What a great angle that is. The cornering forces of the LMP cars are ridiculous.

Saw most of practice and the bit I didn't I watched the updates on Autosport live. Q1 paused only until I've finished writing this.

BOP looks totally wrong from what I saw in practice. May as well go home if you're in an Aston or a BMW. They've both been given increases too. BOO.

:worried:

Hope you enjoy it mate, who are you supporting? Only two Belgian drivers, presume you'll be routing for them regardless.

'vanthoor' in the #92 porsche is a great talent. he was practically unbeatable in a GT3 audi and had a good chance to get picked to drive the audi prototype a few years back. rooting for him, yeah. he's got a younger brother driving for audi in the blancpain series. equally talented.

BoP is horrible. gutted to see the BMW's, astons and corvettes so far back.

Agree, always thought Vanthoor had it. And he's in a Porsche so the chances are very good!

BoP is a real mess. Was really hoping to see BMW & Aston go well. I guess BMW can look at it as the first go, and Aston have a new car so that's going to be a bit of a learning curve too. But to have pretty much no chance right from the off makes it all look a bit daft.

As for the 'Vettes, that's just crazy, same car as last year, they know what's what, yet they've been surprisingly slow. They must be gutted. That said, they didn't qualify too well last year and nearly won.

Whatever, I'm still going to enjoy the hell out of it. Really want to see the Toyota win. Mrs M is a big Buemi fan (thanks to the Renault connection with Formula E) and I'd like to see Alonso get a shot at the triple crown. Also really would like to see Button go well. Love the bloke.

Aside from that, I always support Manor because I think Lowdon is a fantastic guy. Will never forget how he spoke for a good five minutes about Jules in the press conference after he passed. Fighting back the tears and saying such wonderful heartfelt things. Shame they're always shite!

But always my favourite bit is GTE and that looks like a washout already!
