Few questions

Hi folks, two questions.

I have removed the Renault head unit/radio and replaced it with a aftermarket Pioneer unit. The Renault head unit was attached to an amp under the drivers seat. Is this now attached to my Pioneer head unit, to increase watt power or is it just unnecessary weight???

The other question is, if you have a full fat car and install lowering springs should you change the standard shocks for Cup shocks? And if so could you just change the rear?
 
The ‘full fat’ term is really from the 172/182 cars. But if you’re suggesting you have a ‘full fat’ 197 then it should have Cup springs and shocks on it.
 
Renault parts direct are doing a sale on the genuine shocks and the springs aren't that badly priced the shocks are nearly half price.
 
Full fat meant it had the luxury and performance options so in a 172/182 it had climate control and the cup pack (cup suspension) in the 197 what you want is Recaro's, Xenon headlights, climate control, auto headlights/wipers, cup suspension (colours on the springs and red callipers) the 197's were more option based cars. The 197 also had sunroof, power folding mirrors, Recaros, Leather standard style seats, Sat Nav, the cup wing and the Cabasse radio system you just ripped half out, the 172/182 cars came more like one high spec all xenon headlights except the trophy.

To answer the stereo question, if you have it wired up and just plugged in your not doing yourself any favours, you have two amps now in series, it works but it’s far from ideal!

Ideally you’d rewire the amp under the seat and remove it, use the one amp in the headunit which probably has as much poke as the one under the seat, basically any amp will add distortion and you have two adding a good chunk more than you need

If I remember right you can pull the amp wiring loom back up from under the seat and add iso plugs to the speaker leads getting the right polarity so you get some bass and not thin watery music

There are too many options to pick from on the 197/200 to use the term 'full fat' so it's hard to answer a question unless I know all the details. :poke:

My car is a standard 197, I thought full fat meant heavier, not a lightweight cup
 
Maybe rear suspension is worn? If I was changing springs/shocks I would keep the same all corners. The Cup set up is pretty good standard for road use.
 
I've had rear shocks (non cup) checked, all fine but the back end is really bouncy with lowered H&R. Front is fine.
 
I retro fitted the under seat amp unit with the 6 disc Cabasse head unit to my car so I know first hand the loom that runs it so your question is vague what's the problem is the sound bad, is it not working or can you not find the aerial connection or do you want to know if you can remove the amp under the seat. Because my thinking is you have unknowingly disconnected the under seat amp from the system as the way it works is the normal connectors are in the dash and there is a loom that takes it down to the amp and back up again the radio aerial gets taken straight to the amp under the seat so the aerial should not be behind the dash. The Cabasse 6 disc unit is just that a disc changer with the controls on it that's why the aerial does not go there but there might be another model than the 6 disc unit I don't know about, I got an aerial with the unit but it seemed that it was long enough to go from the back seats to under the drivers seat so I pulled the original aerial back down from the dash and straight in the amp instead. Quick test for the amp pull the drivers seat forward small plastic cover on the back of the under seat box now check you have the radio code if it locks when it loses power there is a red connector with a lever that disconnects it and the other plugs as well you can pull the unit out the front if you have the removal keys if your radio still works you have already bypassed the amp. As for weight pull the amp the plastic box has no weight in it so it can be left alone some people get so obsessed with weight reduction it's a Clio not a space ship actually they are a option for a storage unit.

Yeah I had that Head unit in the car and removed it, I'm pretty sure the amp is doing nothing, just wondering if it's easy to take out or should I leave it in?
 
Pull the amp it’s self out use the storage space for wheel locking nuts de-icer that sort of thing easy to put back into use after your finished with the car
