replacing brembo pins

Hi guys. Pick up my R27 on Saturday so my question is do I replace the brembo pins now or wait until the pads need changing?

Has the service department at the dealer carried out a service on the car before you pick it up?

If they are in the middle of doing it, maybe they can service the brakes and put the new pins in for you?

yeah but I think it has just been done! Plus I dont actually have the pins yet. Was going to get them today of the person on here.

They are normally a real sh*t to get out. So i would wait until you have all of the brake parts you wanted to replace. Then do it all at the same time.

No the pins require replacing due to the fact you have knock the **** out of them to get them out due to rust

This is my post in another thread about brembo pins:

i really dont understand peoples issues with these pins.

my clio 200, 3 x pads changes in its first year and 17k miles, no pin issues.

my partners megane r26, 4 years old, as far as i can tell no pad change, certanely not for many miles. Pins came out ok and were re-used without issue.

what are peoples issues with them?!

Never had an issue on four pad changes. Just use a hammer and punch, few suggestive taps and they ease out. Simple job

Not had a problem my self, tempting fate by saying that but the problem is when they seize in the caliper then bend when you try and get them out.

I have always kept my brakes nice a clean by using wheel brushes when I wash my car, so that might help.

But in your case Chris I would just wait, just making extra work for yourself.

The meganes run the correct design Brembo pins, thats what people have copied and fit to the 200 to avoid the issue.

You changed your pads 3x within 17k, the constant removal/fitting will have helped avoid the corrosion issue people are experiencing.

Basically the longer you leave them, the worse condition they are in. The steel(?) collar they fit to the pin rusts and becomes ceased and prevents the pin being removed.

From what i could see the pins are identical on the megane and clio.

And yeah, regular removal will obviously keep them from seizing, hence why I also listed the megane which has had the same pins in for what i can image years and the best part of 25k at least.

Either way, my point is, everyone seems to have issues, I (luckily or not) have had none.

So a different perspective on the usual scare mongering.

3/4 of mine bent and had to be cut, the first one came out sound and I thought I may have been lucky how wrong was I!!

Had issues removing mine the first time I had the car serviced after purchase. Had to have the pins cut out they were well and truly seized. Lesson learnt, when i swapped my discs and pads a year later they came out without a hitch. I now have the alternative style pin that user mrpink was selling a while back. They use a split pin design rather than the rubber o ring which i believe should make them easier to remove.

All 4 of mine came out without issue, but that was due to only being on the car for a alittle over 12 months and only 5000'ish miles.

I had an unoffical 1yr service and asked to have my breaks stripped and cleaned and when refitting put the revised R clip ones sold by MrPink so i dont have this problem in the future.

When I changed mine with 35k on the clock I had to beat the grannies out of them as they were completely seized in, ended up cutting them out in the end.
I appreciate that some peoples may glide out with the faintest whiff of air on them but also on the opposite end others have had to basically beat the crap out of them to get them out (me included)....you never know what your gonna get till you get out your punch and your hammer!

or perhaps you know how to swing a hammer......a bit like someone else

I would assume it's one of those problems you only hear about when it's faulty.

Before this thread you did'nt get people saying, 'i've just changed my brakes and had no probs what so ever'

Only the threads saying 'i've just had a ******* changing my brake pads'
