Xenon projectors weird auto-levelling problem

Hi guys,

You are going to have to bear with me on this one - it's a tricky one to explain.

So, when I first bought my 197 I thought that my dipped beam projectors were projecting far too low and I couldn't see far enough into the road. Because of this, I manually adjusted the lights to put them higher (using the torx screwdriver under the bonnet).

This seemed to solve my problem for a while. However, as of a few weeks ago I noticed that my lights seemed to adjust themselves far too high thus dazzling people. So today I have proceeded to manually adjust them again! (but this time, lowering them)

I think my real issue here is that the auto-levelling seems to be temperamental - sometimes they level themselves and then sometimes I can just turn them on and they won't level themselves at all...like tonight (it was projecting far too low again.) - very frustrating! :thumb1:

Can anyone help - has anyone had a similar problem to this?

I had the exact same problem, in my case it was the rear axle xenon levelling sensor, a quick fix at around 120 iirc

Thanks for replies. Is there a way of diagnosing the problem for definite?

@skny - How did you know it was this? If it was the same thing for me, do you know if it'd be a DIY job or garage?

It was done at the dealers, so maybe there was an error log in the obd that told them what happened, pretty sure its possible to do it yourself but maybe it needs the obd error logs to be deleted first...

Had the same thing on my 182 so i pulled the wires off the back of the levelling motor at the back of the lights and then set them to the correct hight. As i didnt re-connect the wires they stayed at the hight id set them at and i never had any issues again.
ps that was the £free DIY way.

I've got this exact problem, I ran through gff and got rear sensor outside tolerance.
Ordered a rear sensor from Renault 3 times now and they supplied me with the wrong one each time!! Very frustrating!! But have noticed the wiring slightly green so may be high resistance.

@blackpanther I m gonna disconnect the rear sensor and hopefully this solves it.

This is certainly one way of doing it! I would prefer to get it sorted properly at some point I think but I might think about doing this in the meantime ..
