Goodbye Clio 200 :( Hello Focus RS :)

Well, the best car I've ever had (prior to yesterday) is up for sale because I've just bought the best car I've ever had.

Only done 80 miles or so in it but here are some first thoughts:

It feels bigger, but not as big as I'd feared. Can throw it about a bit but not as much as the Clio. Steering feel of the Clio is much better - not as light.

Seats are identical, driving position is a bit lower but the Clio's steering wheel is much nicer (thicker rim)

Clutch pedal is too high, maybe I'm just used to the Clio one but my leg was getting cramp after a while.

Build quality is about the same. Both are better than the respective brand's offerings from years back, but neither are going to win any awards. Still, that's not the reason for buying either of theses. Clio's stereo has better sound quality, but the Focus (Lux 2 with Sat Nav) will go louder without distorting. Clio will play iPhone/iPod through USB cable no problem, Focus needs an audio cable as well, or Ford specific Y cable.

Engine sound - the Clio is pretty quiet, even with the standard exhaust the Focus has a fantastic sound - the five pot warble and the occasional pop and bang. I think I'm definitely going to get an aftermarket system for this.

To conclude I love it, but it's quite a different beast to the Clio. They cost twice what a 200 of the same age does and I really don't think they are twice as good. Just shows how much of a bargain the 197/200 is. I'm so glad I experienced the 200 for a couple of years, but I've had turbo'd cars in the past and the urge for boost was too much to resist.

Just needs lowering now, then an exhaust, torque mount, quick shift...

enjoy your new motor

nice to see someone post something thats actually fact and has both feet firmly on mother earth :foxspeed:

I also have an mp350 focus rs, it is in a different league compared to my clioRS IMO, and its interesting that most of what you feel about it, id disagree with!....

I think build quality wise, the FRS is miles better, doesn't have anything like the problems the CRS does, recaros also are harder wearing, no wear issues I've heard of yet, its massively quicker, it is, and does feel bigger, so not quite as chuckable like you say, and it does sound fookin awesome.

I like both cars, but its hard to compare because you get what you pay for, the clio has a fun factor, but also a fear factor that somethings gonna break, the FRS feels bulletproof, biggest problem is it eats tyres.

MPG wise, averages 30, but my driving is inconsistent as its only used for shows.

simply awesome cars mate

if you don't mind me asking, what in your opinion are the things to look out for when buying an RS?

Just the usual stuff. The car's are pretty built proof and not alont goes wrong but odd few is starting to eat piston rings, standard and modified.

My thoughts too.

Looks the part, i hope you enjoy it, i know someone with one (green) and he loves it.

Well 4 months later I totally retract what I said about them not being twice as good as a 200. They definitely are!

It took me a year to do my first 3000 miles in the 200, I've done the same in 3 months with the RS. I'm still going out for no reason other than to drive the car and I've never had so much fun in anything else. It's the KMS exhaust that makes it - an unearthly howl when on boost coupled with loud pops, cracks and bangs when lifting off - so addictive.

I've been tweaking a fair bit too, mods now are:

Elevate torque mount
Bryshifter quick shift
Sparco gear knob
Eibach springs
KMS Firestorm exhaust
3" downpipe
200 cell sports cat
Alloy recirc valve
Brakes painted red
Spec-R intercooler
Spec-R alloy boost pipe kit
Roose silicone boost hoses
Roose silicone induction hoses
Auto Specialists alloy inlet, resprayed satin black
RamAir cone filter
Revo Stage 4 remap
550cc Injectors

Running about 400bhp. Next up tyres then external fuel system, clutch and forged bottom end.

Here's how it looks now:
