Hi mate, being a car trader I had an experience with driving a wrx hatchback (not an sti) for 6 months. Running cost fuel wise weren't too bad, quite a small tank for the engine size £45 max to fill from empty, getting roughly about 200 miles. Fantastic driving position, very comfortable (sti might be harsher). Handles brilliantly, engine is very smooth. Interior not the best looking imo but feels a bit more solid from the previous hawkeye/peanut eye shapes, just seems a little more instalated and less road noise.

although the hatchback shape is not everyone's cup of tea but it does grow on you and it's very rare you see them on the road (sti looks a lot better lol) what I will say about the hatchback is the amount of boot space you get especially when the back seats lay completely flat when down its like a van lol.

Overall in my own opinion there great cars, really reliable, a real joy to drive. Still got mine for sale lol

I have had a classic (1995) and a Bugeye (2002) so not in the age bracket you are looking for but...

Running costs are obviously higher than the Clio, my classic got around 20 ish MPG, the bugeye a little higher (so not a million miles from the Clio) but you will have to run it on SUL, performance is good which is to be expected and the flat four sound is ace! They handle well and stick to the road like glue due to the 4WD.

In my case, paranoia over the engines gradually got worse, probably from spending too long on ScoobyNet reading about all the bottom end issues, however my mate had one and it went in his.

The only difference in the engines (broadly speaking) is the hatch you are looking at is the 2.5 which has its own documented issues around headgasket failures etc.

My advice is have a read (but not too much of a read) on ScoobyNet to get a gist for the cars, they really are brilliant. Especially in estate form which makes them very versatile.Have a look and drive a few

Nope but had a 55 WRX peanut eye - last of the 2 litres. Most reliable car Ive ever owned.

Awesome machine in every way but I did spend £10k on it. Dunno about 20mpg tho... Once did £100 tank in 70 miles!

Not sure about the 2.5s tho and thought the hatchback was only front wheel drive?

I got to dick around with one on a track at the start of the year, it was a 2015 WRX STi. My lease goes back in May 16. My plan is to get a 2011 WRX STi saloon - however if I cannot afford it a 2008 - 2010 hatch will be on the cards. Much cheaper.

Absolutely loved it. This one had a straight through and some of the interior ripped out.

I love Scoobys, I'd have one but reckon very expensive to keep/run. They sound amazing and Ive driven my bros, his last was almost 500 bhp, a beast. Heart was pounding. It's on YouTube haha.
Look up Rob Day, he's put plenty of performance vids on.

My classic was 200 times more fun than a clio. Not much more expensive, much more reliable. Mine had 187k on the clock when I sold it. Like has been said, the EJ25 is more unreliable.
