    Front end lower cross member

I needed to remove front end lower cross member in order to get to the oil switch for replacement. I was irked to find i needed to remove both front light clusters so i could undo the bolts (two long 13mm bolts with a 13mm nut at each end). Looking at it now, removing the lights wouldn't be...

    Bumper removal - rusted bolts

:laughing:I don't know what i don't know, that could totally have been a thing! So to make sure I'm clear, you mean snapping the bolt (rather than bracket or bumper)? If so not even sure how I'd do that (accepting it's a last resort).

    Bumper removal - rusted bolts

Thank you. What do you mean by spanning them?

    Bumper removal - rusted bolts

I think i know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway. Trying to remove the bumper on my poorly maintained 197 (so i can replace oil pressure sensor which hopefully fixes the light on the dash ). Suffice to say that the 10mm bolts holding wing to bumper are utterly rusted to f***. No ramp or...

Working near airbags - no CLIP

I need to work near (not with) airbags to trace leak under headlining. Manuals say to use Clip to disarm airbags. Will it be enough to disconnect battery for an hour before I start instead?

Steering clunk - somewhere higher than UJ

Lots of posts about steering noises but most seem centred on UJ, geometry and rack issues. I'm fairly certain my problem is much further "north" than that. When moving from full left lock, there is a notable single clunk which can be felt through the steering wheel after around 1/8 of a turn...

Rear sunroof leak - additional questions

I need to hunt down the exact source of a leak in rear of headlining (197 with panoramic sunroof). From what I've read it's highly likely the drainage pipe from has detached from roof (Or blocked). The headlining is wreaked but this is a car used for sprints so I don't overly care how it looks...

    Breather on inlet manifold

Update: now resolved I was able to get to the bottom of this thanks to other resources on the site PCV is seemingly very unlikely to cause a short term issue if it's simply making a noise (note: possible risk of over pressure to crank case if it was entirely failing) so I was happy running the...

    Breather on inlet manifold

So I finally took a look at this today. PCV was a very easy check and so too was the breather pipe. They were both perfectly clean with no visible signs of damage or wear. The noise however is definitely there. I can only liken it to a bit like a quiet "party blower" type noise which seems to...

    Breather on inlet manifold

Brilliant thanks for this will have a go on weds when I'm off work. Is the pipe referred to in the guide the "breather..." my mechanic was referring to?

    Breather on inlet manifold

My mechanic recently replaced crank shaft sensor on 06 plate 197. He noted that the "breather on inlet manifold is noisy, possibly split internally". I'm not 100% where this pipe is and what it actually does. Can anyone kindly educate me so I can decide if I want to get my hands dirty again...

Boot won't open - not solenoid

Hey all thanks for the follow up. Boot problem was solved - was copper contact within the tailgate switch. Non starting was down to damaged crank shaft sensor. Suspect previous owner had had on off at some point and knocked it. Simple but costly fix as I wussed out of doing it myself. Will...

Clio3: attention, where is sunroof drain pipes located (front/rear)

Just trying to understand that lower diagram (rear drainage). Does the drainage pipe pass through the top of the c-pillar? I'm suspecting that the pipes have dislodged/shrunk from the top drainage points (on both sides) on my 197. Do I really need to do a full removal of the headlining to get...

Boot won't open - not solenoid

Only just spotted this reply. Wondering if there's enough time to put tis thing back up on stands and having a fiddle before the guy who knows what he's doing turns up... I'm inclined to suck up the cost at this point, since I could fiddle and get it running but I probably still...

Boot won't open - not solenoid

Firstly - boot is fixed! 10 minute job in the end; it was a poor connection on the copper contact within boot switch. Knowing it worked when shorting the wires made it a quick and confident fix thank you so much! The fiver to access tech resources sounds like a good spend. This car has been a...

Boot won't open - not solenoid

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to the thread. I'll try shorting the wires today and see if that works. It's a keyless 197 but not been stripped out as we were planning to run in a production standard class. Sadly it has a terrible water leak down the C pillar which was not solved...

Boot won't open - not solenoid

Ah sorry that was unclear of me. I meant that I've disconnected and reconnected the battery during the course of addressing another issue, so un/replugging this component shouldn't be relevant as a fix. Why do you mention the loom? I've been able to open the boot by manually moving the white...

Boot won't open - not solenoid

I have not. The battery has been disconnected since the problem started (another story) but I've not touched that loom. Is this a source of water ingress or are you suggesting a fault in the loom?

Boot won't open - not solenoid

Recently acquired a 197 to do some sprinting. It is proving to be a troublesome purchase. I'll stick to one problem per thread  The tailgate is refusing to open. I'm aware this is a common fault. I've replaced the combined latch and solenoid unit (brand new) which was of course very quick...
