Play in gearbox shifter (back and forth)

Is this amount of play normal? I suspect not.

Anyone know what the fault could be? Rectify?

I had my gearbox apart/fitted it over the last few weeks. I don't remember it having that much play.

Didn't @Northloopcup build your box? He'll definitely know

What happened to the first?

I've attached an image from my gearbox a few weekends ago. You'll see circled, there is a slot where the mechanism arm slots into - this lifts up and down to select the gears (and rotates forwards and backwards via the other selector mechanism (this one is sprung to stay centered).

I can't really be more specific than that - but I wonder if something internally is not doing so well...

That one gave up, had a Quaife in it.

Wanted to go for a gripper, so another refurbed box and gripper fitted!
