Had an issue with the ABS on my car for nearly a year now, diagnostics showed it was a rear sensor (it was, sort of).
The car had been to a renault dealership, and two renault 'specialists', none of which managed to spot the issue the first time.
After replacing the rear disc brakes twice, and the abs sensor, I decided this time to stay and watch the work being done to my car.
The issue was glaringly obvious, the bracket/ring for the abs sensor had corroded and was no longer holding the sensor in place. Unbelievably no one had mentioned the state of this to me.
The offending part:
Renault don't sell these parts separately, meaning I had to buy a whole stub axle to replace it.
The corroded bracket had also rubbed away at the abs ring on the back of the disc brakes, meaning they had to be changed as well (again!).
What it should look like:
What it looked like:
The moral of the story: Don't trust plug in diagnostics, proper investigation should be done before wasting money on parts. It was an expensive lesson for me!
