Cambelt change

What else do I need to be buying other than the cambelt kit and water pump? Also where have people been buying theirs from? I have seen them for approx £150 all in, but unsure if there is a recommended supplier.

Thanks.

Type d coolant and change the auxiliary belt and tensioner too. For genuine they are around £60, oh and the timing tools if you are doing it yourself

Try renaultpartsdirect too (if the websites working) , also worth looking on eBay as a couple of dealers trade on there too (vospers and Renault wolves)

i used Gates belts, good reputation, competitively priced and was used by Renault.
Also need the black plastic plugs/oil seals for the camshaft end seals. You'll need these after setting the cams ( cylinder 1 TDC) in readiness for taking the belt off. I would also do the phaser pulley, you're already in there. If you do this you'll need new bolts/nuts for the cam pulley's.
I did have the full timing tools, but lent these out and still haven't got them back. only need these if you decide to change the phasor pulley.
Oh and by rights you should change the bottom pulley bolt. This is supposed to be a single cycle torque (tighten & torque once) bolt.
The bolts, camshaft end seals etc i got direct from Renault (renault parts direct - wolverhampton), but I phoned them up and got them in the post the following day.

A mate of mine that works for a renaultsport dealership going to do the work for me, so he will have access to the tools needed. I am just trying to gauge to parts list needed in advance as usually you can get the parts cheaper than he can with discount from Renault.

Probably looking at 4-6 hours depending on where you take it. Has your mate done one before on the 197/200s? As it's different to the 172/182s and uses different timing tools I believe. Though if he's a Renault tech I'd expect him to know what he's doing lol. If it was me I'd probably get the pulley done at the same time while everything is off. May as well go the whole hog as they say and then you know everything is sound for the next 5 years.

The tools are the same, and if anything it's an easier job on the 197/200 as you have more room!

Really? - From what I've read on here somewhere I was under the impression that there were differences between the engines requiring different timing tools and method of fitting! The vvt pulley is different too?

Out of interest has anyone used ALS Performance for fitting? I've just had a very decent quote from them for the job lot. They are around 100 miles from me but I'd be quite happy to book a day off work and make the journey if I know they are going to do a decent job. Sound OK from their website.

I have heard good things about Birchdown, as you are a fellow lancashire lad, there is a renault specialist in Accrington too which may be worth a call http://www.renault-spares.co.uk/

Yeah I've heard Birchdown mentioned myself. I'll have a look at the one in Accrington too as that's only about 20minutes away from me. Cheers.

I think what you read is probably the difference in F4 engines. Some of the none Renault Sport versions use a shorter locking tool on the cam pulleys, it's a small adapter that you use on the Renault Sport engines that replaces one small section.

I've not booked it in anywhere yet, will be getting it done at some point in January.

Had a quote from Birchdown in Cheshire and RSC Europe in Accrington but they are both quite a bit more expensive than ALS Performance quote. Think I'm going to give ALS a call this week and if the parts are genuine and they use Renault timing tools I think I'll be booking it in with them. Even factoring in the 200mile round trip it's working out far better price wise.

What quotes have you been getting & what for? If you dont mind sharing.

The quote's I've been getting are for the job lot: So cam belt kit, aux belt kit, water pump, dephaser pulley + fitting and VAT.

I hope they don't mind me putting up the prices they've quoted but here goes. £720 from Birchdown and £660 from RSC Europe.

I appreciate it's a fair job, guessing 5 hours labour, but you can buy all the parts needed for £310 - all genuine Renault from here.

ALS Performance are coming back at £460 so it's substantially cheaper. They've even told me their labour rate is £30 an hour and it's based on 5 hours work.
