Got this 99% panelled now, just needing a nearside wing and i can get it in the paintshop, i can buy a new one next day for £98 so got that covered unles a good secondhand one turns up at a bargain price

Fernandez sorted me out with a roof scoop and it fits like a dream in the hole that was allready there.

It's here fitted with the road car end plates. they look a little better.

I dropped onto a guy breaking a base model clio local and had a few bits off him i needed to get me ready for paint, roof strips and a few brackets, then i had the rear lights off him (i'd broken one) then i asked if he was selling the lot.

I can use the steering colum and petrol tank, neck and loads of other parts like bumper brackets and the like so i now have a lot of stuff i don't need so will be selling off a few parts soon, after easter when i've stripped off all i need.

Good work my friend!
Just wandering, do you have any previous motorsport experience?
Look forward to seeing this progress

My mate has a paint chip book and in it are 'base' colours, what they use before adding other colours to match what you want, one of the light grey colours is very very close to what i have and he told me to go for this as the paint is a great deal cheaper.

He's done his suspension parts in it on an RS turbo he's building up.

Not really, i used to race a motorbike in the late 80's and i used to help out a guy who raced superbikes, other than that it's just building track day cars for about 9 years.

No, a lad called bam, goes to the notts RS meets though.

What are you looking to compete in  look forward to this

Just building it for track days and ring trips.

I bought a damaged 57 plate clio to strip for parts as it was cheap, cheaper than buying a steering colum, pedals, tank and neck, dash parts, bumper brackets and loads of little brackets, clips and plugs i'll need so i spent easter stripping it to component form and cutting bits off to sell on, if anyone needs any 1200 16v bits get in touch.

It's saved me a small fortune allready, the steering colum is now part fitted, i've had to order a renaultsport part to hold the top of the colum and make it adjutable, i can pick that bit up at donington next week along with some other parts i've ordered, a spacer for the servo so i can get the pedals to line up and i think i'll buy some rear side windows if the cup racers have not smashed up all the stock on the renaultsport truck that weekend

The petrol tank fitted a treat and the 1.2 neck/filler lines up perfectly with the 197 flap so i was happy with that.

I saved all the wiring loom from the car too, i 'm not sure i want to tackle stripping that down to the bare basics to cut down on weight so i think i need to look out for a cup car loom or have one made up from scratch.

I've enjoyed taking this car apart, i now know how most things are fitted together now so i should not break things if i need to remove anything from my other 197

Where do you keep all these cars? 3 Clios and 1 Alfa?

I have a couple of mates with garages on a small site, one for repairs and one for bodywork, on the same site are some smaller units that you can't run a business from so me and a mate share one, i have this clio and my (soon to be gone) alfa 145 and his escort cosworth in there.

It gets busy at the weekends as other mates have their cars there too, a lot of p155 taking but a good bit of progress happens too.

What a thread. Good work Wayne. Can't wait to see it painted! This is shaping up to be the most awesome and most cheap Clio ever built! Hats off to you sir!

You could always leave the panels multi-coloured and tell everyone it's special, just like VW did with the Harlequin lol.

hows this project going? is it still alive.

It's still going. . . . slowly, not in any great rush and picking up bits and pieces as and when they come up.

I normally order a few parts from renaultsport (RSport in Wimbledon) a week or so before a touring car race and pick them up at the track but the BTCC has just had a 4 week break and the clios were not at knockhill yesterday so nothing to be had, i'll be ordering a new steering rack for Rockingham in a fortnights time.

It's sat on three wheels at the mo, I bought some proper clio cup bottom arms from nicknameless a while back, they just bolted into place, I have both uprights/hubs now so have placed a megane 1400 strut (with a cut down spring :blush:hmy:smile: to prop up the car, i'll do the same for other side soon and with my rack will be able to move it about and possibly get it into the spray shop soon, depends how busy my mate is.

I'm not sure what suspension I will use yet so nothing on the back damper/spring wise, I could do with an old spring to prop it up so I can replace the block of wood in there for now.

Its fully panelled now, it has a full compliment of pedals, steering colum etc, seat mounts and a (LHD) dash are next on the list.

It's coming along but like I say, not in any rush, I belive there will be a few more parts available to buy soon at the end of the season so we'll see.

all ready for the paintshop, just waiting for a spot, hoping to find a drivers side skirt before then, if no it's a new one.

That's your drivers side if you've got one, passenger side on a cup car.
