as titled got it checked for free today by renault and i have excess movement with the N/S/F hub lower pivot and they want £600 quid to fit!!!!!!! is this an expensive part?

iswas that the same problemon my report it says N/S/F hub lower pivot has excess movement can i not just got the pivot changed? im a complete nob when it comes to cars guys
lol did you have a knocking noise when moving the steering wheel at a stand still mate? this was the 2nd opinion 1st garage said the track rod end and track rod arm was bent

Try rotating the wheel slowly with the engine running and watch the U-joint on the steering column you can see in the drivers footwell.
Watch to see if it sticks and jumps slightly and produces a knock, mines been doing this for a while and is on a list of small problems.
the noise it makes doesnt sound good to me, only brought it on saturday, i make a habit of buying cars with problems!
sounds like both places dont know how to check them
if its an mot garage they can use the turning plates to show up the issue
as for the work - where are you ? take it to a specialist renault place
the cost will be mainly for the perfo-hub assembly - it will be a case of fit a big bit rather than just changing the ball joint
im in the west midlands mate,1st place i took it to was kwick fit but only cause my mate works there and will pay next to nothing for the job, 2nd place was renault got a free health check, ive got it booked in next week at another mates garage to find the problem if he cant sort it ill go to a renault specialist
had it checked by four ashed today they said hub carrier is ****ed and can replace it for 200 is that a good price, they also said there is very little play in the steering rack is that an expensive job, they are gonna do the hub 1st and take it from there
Play in the steering rack is down to wear in the track rods (not the rod ends, the inner rods) I seem to recall they are about £50/side, plus new track rods at the same time at a similar price, plus labour.

ok so all in all not that bad, im not paying for the hub i spke to the guy i brought it from and he is giving me back £200 im guessing he knew this problem was there and tried to con me
Mine knocking bad over speed bumps, changing gear etc, does sound like exhuast at knockin at times but cant see where it would b touchin. And to top it off, im loosing 10 bhp peak which maybe down to the knocking being picked up by the knock sensor
