Taking food on a plane?

if flying to nyc vigins the only good choice as its there flagship route they will always use new planes. first class is always fully booked on this route for them so they spend the most money here.

if flying to family destinations then planes are normally ****! ie orlando etc etc.

Just to clarify, can I take food from home on to the plane? Not stuff bought in the departure lounge.
