What to offer - Help spend my money!

Hi guys, I'm after a bit of advice, I've spotted these clio's all standard by the looks of things. They vary in price and mileage. My question is how low would you go in at, I was thinking just knock a grand off and haggle from there. Hopefully the links will work.

Personally, i'd only be looking at the 2 blue ones. The black has a better spec but has done higher mileage.

First question you need to ask is if the cambelts have been done. That's your negotiation starting point.

Are cam belts a weak point on the clio? I don't know much about cars but I'm prepared to be a cheeky sod and offer low. Is 60000 miles considered high!! I thought 100000 was good now a days.

What are speedlines?

I'm not particularly after a huge spec as I just wouldn't need heated seats etc. I don't want the two shiney exhaust pipes or a massive spoiler!

So I should contact the sellers and ask if its had the cambelt serviced.

That does look like a great advert, I'll have a think about it as it's out of my budget.

Speedlines are the factory option wheels that are quite desirable. As are the Recaros! (But none of the seats are heated :tongueout:) Some cars (like in the advert above) might have the optional RS tail pipes, which just clamp on. They're easy to remove if you prefer the hidden look.

Might be a good idea to work out what spec you can get, and what fits into your budget. Wish I'd done that - I put a deposit down after my first test drive lol.

A good place to start is the buyers guide - http://clio197.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19788

Cambelt from RENAULT is a grand or there about abouts. Minimum from a specialist is £500. On those of those cars, as they are 5 years or more old, they would have needed to be done.

As said, both aren't the greatest spec'd cars in the world. How many have you had a look at?

The black one looks nice, climate control, CD changer, xenon/cornering lights. But it's not a Cup! (Doesn't have red brake callipers.) I'd also make sure the sunroof doesn't leak. If it really does have full service history, then the cambelt will have been done about two years ago. The tyres look like ditchfinders, so budget £500 for some decent ones.

Red one looks a little basic spec wise.

PK56 looks okay if it's done 25,000, but only if it's had the belts done.

Main thing to look for with them is, on a test drive, any notchiness or clickiness in the gearbox, as they can become expensive (plenty of threads on here about gearbox issues).

i like them all didnt realise they were that cheap, got my 197 a month ago, no recaros for 7500 with 56k, so in comparison theyre all pretty good, personally would go for that black one though

How the heck have half of these cars done so little mileage?

Edit: not the ones listed, just in general. They seem to hardly get driven by the owners
