Anyone come from something much more powerful?

I came from a turbos much more powerfull car . . . . i wish i could go back . I now long for something more , the 200 has no torque and is a chore to drive most of the time compared to a powerfull turbo car.

Don't do it !

Interesting to read, as you seem to have had one of the most roller coaster experiences with a 200.

Going from it being much better than your old car (astraaaaah wasn't it?), to becoming tuned by Tour De Farce, going back to standard and now being disliked by yourself.

It's good to get input from all different views.

I havent gone from a quicker car but to a more powerfull car. I do at times the clio of just how easy it was to drive quickly it was evertless and fun, i did test drive a meg 250 and although faster it was alittle too tame for me as it didnt feel especially quik in a stright line and the clio won for most fun in the corners. I went for an rs in the end because it was fun to give it the beans in a stright line with no need to be pushing it around the bends which is entertaining in its self. I think what im trying to say is it depends what car your coming from and if ur rs was standard i would say go for it however as you have modded you have craved more power which cannot really be done with the clio if wanting to stay na and when you have swapped its too late.

compromises, compromises. thats whats its about.

the clio doesnt do everything so well its beyond criticism. mind you what does when you weigh up price, performance, handling and running costs.

simple lifestyle and job change has caused this .

It used to be great when i brought it , the job i had made the commute bearable as it was not far at all . We also had 2 other cars which meant i could pick and choose when i use it .

Then i moved role for promotion again and now do a 1hr each way commute mix of mostly a roads some dual carriage way and some town driving its hell . Its tiresome to drive lacks power for overtakes on the A roads - lorries , tractors that type of thing .

Now im moving role for another promotion and he commute is to canary wharf which means the car will be sat on the drive and i wont have to use it some days as train is far more effective way to get into central london however others the commute will be 3-4 hours each way to manchester or sunderland so i guess for me in the old role and as i move into the new one a comfy fast cruiser would be ideal , ala 335d saloon ? also looks a tad more grown up  IMO of course .

however i will say the way the car was at the ring could i make the trip to the ring a few more times a year 4-5 as i hope to in 2013 then maybe just maybe it will all be worth it as over there the car just made sense .

Hope this goes some way to explaining my self confessed up and down relationship with the car .

As for the up and down relationship with certain tuners id rather not go into it all .

Who are the tuners to avoid then? No big detail, just the names.

So many varying opinions!

If I were to go from the Focus to the Clio (I'd have to be the Clio, I'm not massively keen on the 225/230 Meg, and the 250 is slightly out of my price range) how much would I be looking at for a 225 engine swap.

I just need an idea of the cost of parts and what's actually involved. I'm assuming I'll have to take it somewhere to have the Clio ECU recoded to accept the Meg engine. I don't mind doing this, but I'd like to do the actual swap myself to be honest..

why even bother? one minute it was about saving money and worrying about expensive bits on a focus RS and now its about pumping a load of money into a clio 225 conversion - which is only the same as a 230 meg but a bit lighter. money pit.

why not buy a 230 meg and just put a clio bodyshell on it. (sarcasm) or keep the Focus (logic).

Because I'm getting bored of the Focus and the fact you have "RS Tax" on absolutely everything.

It's just an idea. I don't particularly like the look of the 225/230 so that's why I want the Clio. I'll have plenty of money left over after buying one too, so that can go into savings..

I have never driven a Focus RS but I have driven a MK2 Focus ST.

Comparing the two, well, you can't really. The focus was big, heavy and couldn't go around a corner. A 197/200 with cup chassis is one of the best handling FWD cars in the world, its raw, it's fun. The Clio will never win any races in a straight line, but who cares? Unless that is your thing and you are at drag strips every other weekend....

I never wanted to be so biased towards one type of car. Ive owned a long list of jap cars, some german metal and my Clios. They are the best 'all round' car money can buy, they just are.

anyone would think you might be a bit biased .

both the old and new Focus RS corner very well and they are also very quick on a lap.

the clio is the value for money choice but when you start sticking turbo engines in them they just become expensive projects.

whats with comparisons to the focus.....its in the wrong segment for a fair comparison...

clio 197/200 vs fiesta st vs corsa vxr vs polo gti :coffee:

megane 250/265 vs focus rs/st vs astra vxr vs golf gti :tomato:

those are true rivals

+1.

Reason being that the Clio, simply, p!sses on the rest of its class.

And it starts.....are you my wife or bank manager in disguise?????

The guy to speak to about this sort of thing is Edd1e - proper car schlag he is.

He is just like the bloke in the Clio advert now. All grown up with a house and an Espace.

He is a legend, and I will refer his royal mature ness to this thread :smile::smile:

call the mature geezer in then. maybe he knows how much a clio 230 conversion is.

i'm all ears.

neither, are you the owner of the focus RS then?????

Nope. One of my pet hates on forums is people telling other people about how they spend their money. If someone wants to put £'s into meg conversion or even a carbon badge, what does it matter....? I sure its not for anyone to say whether its a waste of money, dead money, money pit or anything else for that matter.....I'm only answerable to myself, the wife and the bank manager!!!!!

Is he asking you to borrow him the money? lol
