197: Best place for belts service? (Gloucestershire)

Can't decide whether to sell my 197 or not, but if i do keep it i'll probably get the belts done soon, its only done 34k but it's a '56 plate. So does anyone know of any cheap places around Gloucestershire?

I guess i'm looking at:

Cam belt kit
Aux belt kit
Dephaser (maybe)
Waterpump (maybe)

What should i be looking to pay £500, £600?

Pretty skint at the minute as my bike engines being rebuilt so the cheaper i can get it done the better!

Im sure Renault had an offer on to do the cambelt for £400

Ive used SJ Cooks in Bristol & have no complaints. Paid just over £600.

Isn't Bristol Street Motors the dealership in Glos? Ive not found any local independant specialists so unless you fancy a drive...

Renault quoted me £417 inc aux, cambelt kit.
And £540 with water pump. A local trusted garage quoted me £240 without water pump. Just depends wether you want that stamp in your book.

I've been told parts alone are £240!

AUX Belt - £20
Dephaser Pulley - £100

So I gotta be looking at £400 at absolute lowest if I can find somewhere cheap locally, don't really know anywhere though.

I just didn't choose that cos I had a long hard chat with the guy at Renault and we decided to not opt for the pulley and do the water pump. It's up to you though

Quite low miles so waterpump should be ok, I think dephaser needs doing though.

Bear in mind that the crankshaft pulley is also due on this service.

KTEC quoted me ~£680 for aux & Cambelt kits, water pump, crank pulley, coolant change, oil change & all filters.

Fred @ btm in brum is about 490 for cambelt/aux belt kits & waterpump iirc.

Are dephasers bad on the 197 then? Thought that was just a 1*2 issue?

Car has felt a bit under powered twice this week so had my local Renauit Specialist clip test it and he reckons it logged a dephaser code which he says if the pulley was faulty it could hold the timing back?

Guys, just for reference, dont scrimp on getting the belts done on your F4Rs by anyone other than a proper specialist.

Incorrect timing can quite easily lose you 30bhp. Get it done by someone with the correct locking tools, & experience of the engine, ie Danny@519, TDF, Fred@BTM, hell even ktec.

Dont get it done by some cheap garage that in 99% of cases, will bugger it up ...
