Cambelt

Hello, my 197 is on an 07 plate and just coming up to 29000 miles. Does anyone know the cambelt interval for changing? Would be much appreciated! Cheers!

5 years/72000 miles also need to change auxiliary belt and tensioner and its recomended to change the water pump aswell mate

Thanks for the fast reply! Would you reccomemd me getting it done then? Also do you know what would be a good price for getting it done?

Yeah, do it at 5 Years regardless of how low the mileage is, not worth the risk.

Prices vary from ~£450 at a specialist to ~£1000 at a dealers. Where in the country are you?

Because if it goes you have to replace all the belts again
You don't have to if you don't want to

That's a good find, they seem to vary wildly.

Did you have the Dephaser done too?

no problem mate, yes i'd recomend it as previously mentioned by roy, if the pump goes then all the belts would need to be replaced in order to change the pump so its worth the 'better safe than sorry'

I just payed over £600 for belts & waterpump at a main dealers.[/QUO

if you've got a warrenty fair enough but if not i wouldn't touch a main dealer with a barge poll personally,i'd say the hourly rate is almost twice that of a good back street garage and from what i know through mates that have worked for BMW and Ford, they'll fix or bodge knackered parts, keep the new parts and sell them off for a bit of pocket money

Heard that range rover do that with the parts too! Think I'll go to a back street garage that's just down the road! Has a good reputation too!

There's specific ones for the 172/182/197/225/230 version of the F4R as far as I've read.

Something to do with the VVT, needs to be locked in a certain way or something...

Mine is an 07 with 53K on her....being done this year in September!

About the £500 mark - can't remember the exact figure though!

all the genuine parts for it - belt kit - cam plugs - pump - aux belt kit - coolant is over £200....

so quotes of £500-600 from dealers are good and they do "guarantee" repairs for 12month iirc

Mines an 07 and done 29000...so would you say ive got a few month yet?

Yeah, am sure its 5 years though isn't it? Regardless of mileage. I wouldn't want to say for sure (my disclaimer )

Mind you, having said that, we have just had our other little 1,4 clio cambelt done - 9 Years old & 55k miles, never had a cambelt, brake fluid etc - was doing ok, and the belt that was removed was fine!
