Car Costs - All in

£750 per month on shiny things.

Ahhh, the joys of owning a project car. F?ck it, it's only money!!!

its freightening when you sit back and work out how much you have spent on a project car over time.
I had a big project on the go a few years back, I actually took the car off the road for a few years to build it, as we came towards the end I said to the misses 'we've averaged around a grand a month on this project' I couldn't believe it, daftly not long after it was completed I broke it, sold it off in bits and put the money in to allowing us to move from a one bedroom flat to a big country bungalow.
I can only say, I wouldn't have saved that money if I wasn't spending it on a project, so breaking it off gave us a big lump sum that could change the way we lived (not that that's an ideal way to look at it!)

I agree with you on the saving part Kelv, I've spent stupid money on the car in 3 months but I'd have just wasted it on crap I didn't need before.

Willis haha, that's insane.

@Ryan, I can't believe he's insured it for £800 at 20 either, must be living in the sticks XD I'm 23 with 3 years NCB and it's just cost me £725.

Bloody hell, thought mine was bad.

Finance - £130/month
Ins - £115/month
Fuel - £160/month

With tax etc it works out at about £430 a month I think. Want the fiesta now though as it's only gonna work out £5 more a week for a new car!

HOPEFULLY, next time i come to renewing my policy I will have my first NCB (touch wood) and turn 21 so it should drop a little. But if I didn't have a nice car to spend my money on then I would only piss it up the wall and have nothing to show!

I hate to break it to you, but all the insurers I tried at the time didn't see 21 as a price drop it's a myth apparently and it's infact 25. That was Admiral, Direct line, Quinn and Adrian flux. Although the NCB will make a difference.

There are some advantages to being 21 though. Lots of specialist insurers wont touch you until you're 21. So the likes of Flux, Greenligh, Sky etc. will be able to quote for you next time around. I've found ALL the specialist have been cheaper than "high street" companies, and Greenlight in particular have been great for me

Hey everyone,

I would like to find out what everyone values their car at.. So how much insurance, finance (previously if paid off) and petrol do you go through in a month?

I'm looking at £240 pm for the car, £2290 insurance per annum and around £150 petrol a month! So probably around £600 a month for the car, thats before tax :l Good job i love my dory!

Ryan.
