Chnging down to 5th Gear

Hi

I'm experiencing the 1st and Reverse won't go into gear when cold problem which I'm trying to live with.

But I have noticed when slowing down at say 50 mph I try to change from six to fifth and sometime feel a crunch between gears? Am doing something wrong?? I usually slot it into neutral and pop it up but sometimes it feels like the box does not like it. When changing up to fifth its fine. If I drop down into any other gear its fine.

I'm not the greatest driver in the world either so it could be me???

Doesn’t sound like a driver issue. Not heard of that many crunching in 5th.
When was last box oil change?

I don't think its been changed. I spoke to an ex Renault Technician who runs a specialist garage who told me changing the oil is a waste of money so I'm on the fence about getting it changed... I'm going to check the linkage under the gearbox at the weekend if I can access it. I have never owned a car with such niggles since my MG ZR

From experience my 197 benefitted hugely from using ELF NFP. Night and day difference from oil change.
Others swear by Redline MTL. £30-40 to buy. Needs doing by the sound of it

Swapped my gearbox oil with Fuchs Titan 2 years ago and never looked back. Gearbox has been faultless over the last 30K (pretty good going considering I'm quickly chasing down 90K!), no crunching, no cold start issues getting into 1st gear. Well worth the ~£20 for the oil

Amazon from memory Colin. Pretty certain it was from Nielsen as well

Mine has just been replaced with NFP.
1st still a bit stiff to engage when cold.

Battery coming out on Friday afternoon and I'll be checking and greasing the linkage bushings to see if that helps.
I'll report back my findings, fingers crossed it will help
