**Clio 197/200 Race Car Build**

Where scoured exhaust from out interest ?

From the orange cup racer parked next to this one!! It now runs a large bag tank which is recessed into the floor so will be going for a custom side exit exhaust pretty soon!

Great build, enjoyed reading that. I know the time it takes to ensure a good quality result. Mine took an age, its all the small bits and finally finished it end of last year.

Any Cup parts needed let me know Im happy to help: sales@apmotorsport.co.uk

Thanks, it shouod be pretty cool when its finished. Do you have a build thread? Thats handy to know re bits, do you have a contact number i could have also?

Looks awesome man [emoji7] love a bodied Clio

Me too, thanks

Just caught up with this thread. What a progress!

Proline thanks for the pic! Now that looks the business:smile:

btw are you happy with the job done by the bodyshop mate? I'll be looking for one at some point soon..

Very happy yes, all still needs polishing tbf but tbh its a race car and will prob need redoing after a season but yes very happy. Was painted by extreme restorations in west sussex, have had a few builds painted by them now!!

looking good. door windows go in ok?

Thanks Ian, they are only test fitted in pics but yes, very good fit!! They are all going in this week so will update with proper pics when that happens!!

Little update..

Another package turnt up from Holland...TRW Motorsport complete epas coloumn from a cup racer and cable throttle pedal assembly..

20160603_183104_zpstyhs5zik.jpg

Which got fitted as soon as i had a spare 5 minutes, as well as the engine mounts..

20160604_122027_zpsav9jiy36.jpg

Engine..

20160604_120731_zpsjmaozj0h.jpg

And Gearbox (just rough bolted up to get it out the box and off the shelves)!

20160604_120736_zps2mklyieg.jpg

Then it was time to sort the pedals..Clutch pedal wasnt a problem as its the on its own where as the brake and throttle are combined, seeing as im converting to cable for the throttle bodies it meant the fly by wire pedal assemmbly had to go, which is why the cupracer throttle pedal was purchased. Only problem with that is its obviously meant for a lhd car so mounting more or less in the centre of the bulkhead...no good for the right hand corner of the rhd pedal location. Not a problem, just a needed slight modification...

stock brake and fbw pedals seperated..

20160604_095848_zpsvdccjbhy.jpg

Cup racer pedal seperated from bulkhead bracket and new brackets welded to brake pedal..

Will get it fitted tomoz along with some other bits

Got the peddles fitted this morning..

More tomoz!!

Nice, everyday's Christmas when you have a Clio addiction! :w00t:

Pedal looks bang on too, was there a hole in the bulkhead or need to make one?

will need to make a hole, im away from work now until saturday when il fit the box, will have a look at sorting the throttle linkage and cable then also.

Are you going throttle bodies now?

See what it makes tbh when it's back together, but more than likely somepoint will do. AT did me a CAD drawing using their DBW module, but not got a price yet for it so I've no idea if it'll be as much as Jenveys overpriced unit!
The positive with the AT setup is it's a p'n'p option. However as things have escalated somewhat on the spec I fully suspect this engine is going to need something much serious now, so Jenvey SF's like you have will likely be the way. And as Jenevy don't have a feasible DBW option... I'll have you fab me up a pedal  It's all a little way off that anyway.

Little update..

didnt think id have anytime until saturday as have been away from work for the past couple of days, however...I managed to get down there this afternoon for a couple of hours to get the gearbox fitted, all went well and took all of around 20 minutes!

20160610_133141_zpsetw5toap.jpg

With that done, i turnt my attention to the throttle linkage and pedal. Rich...there is an existing hole, in exactly the same place as the phase 2 172/182 so no need for any holes drilling.

20160610_162700_zpss91c9lhb.jpg

20160610_162710_zpst2gec47m.jpg

Just need the plastic clip from a phase 1 pedal to complete as the clip that came on this (x85) pedal, the nipple for the cable is tiny so cant be used with the cable im using.

I then got the header tank mounted, couldnt help but offer up a fitting and wiggins clamp..for anyone who doesnt know about wiggins, basically its like a vband for hose and fitting..quick release. I have done away with all silicone hose on the engine and have gone with the progold alloy fittings, -20 and -16 progold high temp polymer hose so no jubilee clips or rubber to fail ever.

20160610_144934_zpslufgwolf.jpg

20160610_144848_zpsedze7yus.jpg

Also got the scuttle panel cut round the pull cord brackets and fitted..

20160610_163327_zpsnm3qmcy9.jpg

20160610_163333_001_zpsafdvxpca.jpg

Engine bay starting to take shape now!!

Little update..

Cup racer front subframe and support frame arrived yesterday..

20160613_182750_zpst9wxw2xq.jpg

which has been cleaned up and sent for powdercoat and vapour blast along with a few other bits.

Rose jointed alternator bracket made up, since removing the air con an alternative belt set up was needed, decided to do away with the idler and go for a rose jointed option..

20160614_143335_zpsc1l1pdw7.jpg

20160614_145113_zpsiig5gqsm.jpg

20160614_145129_zpsmnt41nlv.jpg

New belt for that should be here tomorrow and hopefully get that job crossed off the never ending list!

Gearbox breather made using nothing other than the famous ProGold..

20160614_145040_zpsxwdp6xzc.jpg

20160614_145035_zps2omgxgyp.jpg

And a fuel filter added, with 10micron element as its so close the fuel rail/injectors.

20160614_145054_zpsdsbrldw4.jpg

20160614_145045_zpswbck7uy7.jpg

20160614_145049_zpsavoxpia0.jpg

Fuel pressure reg should be here tomorrow so as that can be crossed off the list also!!

With your rose jointed alternator tensioner, have you tried it with a belt on. I made one up when i did my conversion last year and had a slight issue with the belt fouling on the lower plastic cam belt cover around the crank pulley. The original tensioner brings the belt out at a different exit angle off the crank pulley. ......you may have to spend some unplanned time on this mod. Hope you don't because it will distract me from the count of clio cup parts being fitted !:lol:

I did too.

I just removed a small section from the plastic cam cover.

was waiting for a belt, which turnt uo this morn..in short no, you are correct it doesnt work as the belt touches the cover.

I took so many measurements trying to be clever, got the tolerance of the alternator before flipping down and slacking the belt etc again, calculated the length of the rose jointed bracket, went to town and thought id cracked it, really thought id just about get away with it without an idler. I was wrong :worried:

not sure taking some out of the cover is the way to go, will prob end up with the idler pulley back in there.

Another little update..

Couple of bits turnt up this morn, first being this...fuel lab 515 series pressure reg..

20160615_152053_zpsprlnoxen.jpg

And some recall and menu buttons for the racetech2 dash..

20160615_152103_zpsyrjtguyn.jpg

Wasted no time in getting the reg assembled and fitted, thats the fuel system complete! Yay!

20160615_160154_zpssevl4daz.jpg

20160615_160202_zps9kpc8lvt.jpg

Have been meaning to do this next bit for a while, thought id add it in here..not a massive job but one that kept getting forgotten, putting a finisher on the atmo hose from the catch tank, heres what they look like before swaging...

20160615_163544_zps67bw2cdy.jpg

20160615_163554_zpst3nbo2mn.jpg

And once swaged..

20160615_163828_zps6tbbybib.jpg

And picked up the last few bits from the paint shop...was a surprise for even me to see the green..it was in the mix but not this particular green...focus rs ultimate green!!

IMG-20160615-WA0012_zpskbiguppv.jpg

(wing mirror wing triangle bits now need painting)!!

IMG-20160615-WA0016_zpspakj1y1y.jpg

20160615_123122_zps4yicb2gx.jpg

That is all

What colour hose ends can you do? Can you do the same colours you have, but where you've used blue - use red instead?

I need to convert my fuel system to a return setup over winter to sustain more power and a proper pressure reg setup, that red/gold/black colour scheme would work so well for my car. I've also got a gold Mocal catch tank I'd want to change the plumb in and a braided feed for the SPA pressure sensor - need that **** to match  If I gave you measurements, could you make them as the Mocal bits and the SPA I may be tempted to get priced and ordered while the car's apart.

In this particular hose brand either blue and gold or black/gold or black/black..i may be able to swing a custom for you though. I can do blue and red aeroquip which is a rubber lined hose or blue and black on a tfe. Best to give me a call to discuss properly, need to speak to you anyway!! Call me today if you can.
