Fast Road/Track Ultra Red 197

I was curious what weight is sitting now after I stripped the rear section out so went to the weighbridge again,I think he meant to write 1180 as I weigh 80 and that would take it to the 1260 with me in it which looks correct, about 5 liters of fuel.
So took out 100 kg which I was surpsised at as I still need to do the front section, replace the heavy original passenger side, airbag etc. just the seat I believe is another 20 or 25kg saved,I think that's pretty good.

This was before,1360 with me in it and 1280 without, this was completely original.

I may have dreamt this but I am sure I read that the seats weigh in at 32kg odd?
That maybe including runners too.

Love the weight saving as it is a great way to make the car perform better for little or no cost.

Was that the Recaro or the normal RS seats?
Yeah weight is everything lol, that's the only thing letting it down imo, lightest one I've seen is Liam one at 1030 I think but his one is pretty extreme, would be nice to save another 100 kg but I believe the only way might be to get fiberglass doors, not ideal without a full cage unfortunately.

Both seats are from Recaro. If you're talking about the Sportster CS they should be slightly above 30kg with the console.

Makrolon windows should "only" save around 10-20kg depending on their thickness.

The lightest Clio I know about is the one from Louis. It weighs 1065kg with a full tank.

@GMballistic: Great,I will have a look at that thread.

@Marsch: Yes must be the CS seats I am talking about then,30kg sounds about right,I weighed them at the time but didnt write it down.
Didnt know the plexi save some much weight,I though it was about 1 kg per window, the only thing they need to be hard coated otherwise they scratch pretty easily and are a pain to see trough in direct sunlight. Lous has a progress thread by any chance?

I'm not really sure about the figures but that's what I heard. Especially replacing the back one should save quite a bit.

I don't think Louis has a thread like that somewhere but he's on insta as "louu_is". He has quite a lot of pics there but the account is set to private so you've to request approval to be able to see it.

Had to take the bumper off to do some other stuff and took this big plastic trim off, almost 1 kg off I'll take it,bumper still feels all solid.

I have also fitted aerocatches to the boot and cut all the metal inside, removed the lock/switch,2,3 kg off:

Also fitted one of these, looks better than a rubber grommet:

I also noticed the gas struts were looking a bit rusty so got new replacements:

I was a bit worried about the emissions with only the main cat and got MOT soon so got it hooked up and altough it wasn't fully warmed up it still passed no problems,I wonder if with the Scorpion sports cat it will still pass, the original catalyst is now 18 years old can't see it lasting much longer lol.

I never did the alignment after doing all the suspension work so sorted that out for now,was a fair bit out, still need to adjust the camber but run out of time:

I didn't really like the stock Scorpion exhaust tips as they get lost in the diffuser and can hardly see them so made my own from 76mm stainless.still needs adjusting to sit perfect though:

Facebook was actually useful for once and got in contact with a nice chap who kindly coded out all the airbags out with Clip,he had a nice Clio too:

PXL-20240303-092912752.jpg

With that done I was able to get the rear airbag loom out:

I moved the airbag ecu out of the way under the dash:

Really recommend this tool to remove the tape from the wiring loom, makes it a lot easier and won't do any damage as it has a rounded end to prevent that (it's broken on mine though) :worried:

While I was there I took all the original insulation out as some of it was soaked and just nasty, removed the tar and cleaned a few rusty spots:

PXL-20240307-171709038.jpg

The original sound deadening weighs 5,8kg and the tar around 1kg (there was a few bits missing on the scale still on the car):

I did put some insulation back though, still is 4kgs lighter, but I couldnt finish as out of stock:

Tried again to adjust the camber but not very happy with the Powerflex camber bushes, was only able to get up to 1,4 and 1,14 of negative camber,no idea why the difference, this was with no ballast inside though, should have checked tyre pressures but quite sure they are the same.

PXL-20240327-170757279.jpg

This is for the rear, ideally should get some toe plate in on one side.

Few jobs to update, got around to fitting new door vynil as they were faded and coming apart, bit of a pain to take the old one off and the new ones aren't perfectly smooth but they will do for now, before:

Got a passenger carbon footrest which I had from my last track car and put to use, provides a solid surface after removing all of the original sound deadening which was a lot thicker than what I fitted now, also installed a fire extinguisher just in case, safety first.

PXL-20240411-124003738.jpg

the AC stopped working due to a leaking compressor I suspect so just decided to remove it completely and fitted the Ktec kit:

total weight saving for this kit is 6,3kg,pretty happy with it,it definitely feels more responsive than before,I'm now looking to fit the 182 pulley to save another kilo.

Was looking to get a cage for a while, few nice ones around but couldn't justify spending 600£+ for only a half cage,so found one on ebay for half the price that I've painted myself and welded some guessets just because they look cool:

s-cage.jpg

Had to make 3mm plates to fit the cage, the floor is quite filmsy in that spot I have found lol:

PXL-20240428-151922349.jpg

been primed, seam sealed and used U-Pol guard:

PXL-20240502-115219075.jpg

Took me a bit to find the correct orientation to fit the cage, even took the passenger door off,so a few marks and scratches happened that will need touch up soon.

Fitted some carbon covers I had spare to protect the paint a bit from the belts.

PXL-20240502-133852701.jpg

have ordered some SW direct to floor mounts to fit a passenger seat.

I really need to do a cambelt now,it's been done at 71k and sitting now at 93k but then saw the mot history and that was in 2015 :grimacing: so it's 4 years overdue, just waiting to buy some Piper cams first,i did take the cover off and the belt looks alright to be fair:

Keep an eye on your alternator bracket pins regularly.

Was it you that had that issue? I know it was someone on this forum but couldnt remember the username,I bought the kit knewing this and even tried to make a third fixing point with some rose jointed linkages but failed lol,I'll need to get another alternator to try again lets just say,for now I've marked and thread lcoked these two bolts.

The OEM setup does have a third fixing point with a bracket so it makes you wonder if the Ktec kit is strong enough.

Yes it was. There was a guy on FB who’d had the same when I first had issues.
Ktec said that I was the only one, and blamed my pulley being perished.

Time will tell. It’s not a catastrophe if it fails. Just more expense if you opt for the cup/Pure kit
