Not another Insurance thread!

Hi all,

I thought I would make this as a bit of insight to those of you who are wanting to modify your cars but don't want your insurance premiums to rise with the cost of it. To be honest, I've declared all my mods and for the price they cost I don't think it's too bad. Talking to people at work with certain modifications I know people do not inform their insurance companies. So this is a thread, by all means feel free to add to it your selves, what extra you pay for certain mods, it's going to vary from person to person, but ringing up your insurance company won't hurt you.

Age: 22
Insurer: Admiral (main driver)

Mods:
Lowering springs up to 50mm £14
HEL brake lines £34
Factory fitted spoiler (cup) £7
Factory fitted splitter (aero) £7
Samco induction hoses £17.50

It's worth noting that only your optional extras from factory are covered to be replace in the event of a claim with Admiral, by some means its a rip off, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

So please add to the list  if this is boring or stupid then please delete but I'd like to know what some people pay for

Alloys
Coilovers

Cheers

So you get charged extra for upgrading your brake lines, technically making your car safer?

Is it me or does that seem very backwards.

I can see it from both sides really, you've made your care feel safer so possibly you would be pushing it more? That's probably how the insurance companies look at it. Same with big brake kits etc.

Using a specialist is a good move.

I declared all the mods on my Alfa 145 (wheels, suspension, roll bars and stripped out etc etc) and got a price allmost the same as a standard car.

i'd heard that they go on the assumption you look after your vehicle more when you've done the mods yourself.

I'm with Greenlight, the following mods added about £50 to my yearly premium, all mods are insured as like for like replacement:

  • 50bhp Shot of Nitrous Oxide
  • Milltek exhaust with decat and centre silencer removed
  • 64mm Throttle Body
  • Lowered on Apex Springs
  • Carbon Bonnet
  • Vinyl stickers on all panels

I was informed that if I added a supercharger at any point it would be about another £50 per year.. My insurance schedule says I'm insured upto 250bhp.

Pretty happy with that.
