What made you buy Renault ??

For me it was seeing soo many of the bloody little things going soo well on track , couldn't believe a little French hatch could go soo well , after jap mobiles for years and fords before that , the wife would love a 200 and maybe next year yes will be able to afford one. Think my little ph1 will be owned for a good few years more , as for the cost etc the grin factor is second to none !!
and would cost me a hell of a lot to get anything near it ,

For me it was the best of the bunch. I tested all the hot hatches and the Clio although not the outright fastest was the in a different league as to how it handled. That sold it to me.

For me it was just a logical move. I'd always liked hot hatches, and despite being a long time Ford fan, after my Mk5 Zetec S Fiesta there was nowhere to go. At the time ford had a bit of gap in it's line up - The Mk6 ST was too slow, the MK1 FRS was too fast and too expensive to run, Racing Pumas were a bit old (and basically a hotted up Mk5 fiesta which I already had). So for me the only next step had to be a Renaultsport. I had my heart set on a 182 for a year or two, but at the time was saving for a house so after I'd got that bought the Mrs moved in. She had a Twingo at the time (first car from her parents), her old man had a 225 Megane too, and so we decided to trade the Twingo, throw my 182 money in to it and bought a nearly new 197 and haven't looked back! The Twingo was only 12months old when she got rid (had it from new) but her old man loved the fact that at 18 she already had her first Renaultsport haha! 5years later and we still love it and have struggled for a while finding anything to replace it with!

Friends Dad owns a number of dealerships, two of which are Renault so I'd always be seeing / going in them with my mate as soon as we could drive at 17.

He brought home a white 200 and i was then dead-set on having one

I went from a crappy punto to a fiesta zetec s as I couldn't afford to insure the ST. Couple years later after really wanting a hot hatch, I opted for the 197 because of its reviews and looks, still loving it.

Well I've converted 4 people into buying them in the last 12 month and all have been happy as hell with them , and my own Clio has been reliable as hell ,

I was tempted by a friends 182 Racer. After driving it around Brands Hatch for the day, it was game on. I started looking for a good 182 but ended up buying my 197 from Jack Goff (BTCC Driver). After this, never looked back and still love it

I piece i did for a Member of the month earlier this year

Well the car that got me into Renaults was a Mk1 Ph1 2.0 Yellow Coupe. I was at school playing footie when one drove past. I stared at it all the way past on the road past the school. It looked amazing and from then on I saved every bit of money i got so i could get a car when i was old enough.

Unfortunately the Megane coupe was out of my price range as it was barely 3 years old then. So i started to look at other Renault's. 19 16v's i liked but was also expensive and so was the 5 GT Turbo not to mention insurance costs at my age. My driving instructor at the time had an old R5 that use to be a learner car, so we went to look at it, but he wanted too much for it and no doubt clutch and stuff took an hammering. Also went to a few car auctions but only one we saw was a tatty 5 door R5. But it got me hooked on the idea of an R5 3 door as a 1st, so out came the Auto Trader and came across a special edtion 1.4 GTS Panache (1987) for £600 in Pontefract. It was perfect and far from bog standard. Semi Bucket seats, Electric windows, Central locking, Twin choke carbs which gave it 72bhp rather then the standard 60bhp. It did cost m3 £999.99 to insure but i didnt care i thought it was amazing. Dad said we'd keep it a year and then scrap it............. 5 years later it was still going and was loving it and it didnt owe me anything.

That all came to an end one January when it snowed. Was on my way to grandparents to take them shopping when I slipped off the road and into a tree and a tight bend, I was heart broken i loved that car. Fortunately it wasnt a big a job to repair as i 1st thought but not knowing that at the time i went out and got my 2nd car a 1993 Mk1 Ph1 Clio 1.8 RSi thinking the worst. My R5 was Repaired weeks after that and then a mate bought it off me and ran it for 2 years before he flogged it on. (So much for scrapping after a year Dad)

Now for some reason i just couldn't love the Mk1 Clio like my R5 and i did all sorts to it to try and make me like it. I got a full leather interior for it and a valver bonnet and a few other bits and bobs but it just didnt feel right. Dont get me wrong the car was great. Great 110bhp engine pulled like a train and great brakes and in corners but just couldnt love it. So a year and a bit later i started looking at cars.

I took a fancy to a Flame Red Mk2 Ph2 172 but could never find one cheap enough. But then stumbled across an iceberg 2002 one which was very cheap at 10k and only had 6k miles on it at Derbyshire Motorpoint. Went for a look and a drive and put a deposit on it. It was a right car, It wasn't Flame Red but i couldn't say no to the price it was and it was immaculate inside and out.

I owned the 172 for 4 years in which time id joined Cliosport.net which i organised a few meets for and became a moderator and also made some friends in the yorkshire group and further a field of which many im still close friends with today. The gatherings, drives out and shows made owning the R.S. even more special. Being able to share the experience with others and not be considered boring was what made it so good.

2 Years into owning the 172 I binned it on a roundabout ripping off the front left suspension and still to this day i've no idea how I managed it as I wasn't going that fast and it was dry. Was pissed off with myself for that for some time as it was a great car. It was fixed no problem back to full health but you know you never feel the same for a car after an accident. 6 Months later i changed the tyres to the 182 cup spec Michelins PE2's tyres and i could not believe the difference in grip levels to the Conti Sports i had on before. Was loads better and i slowly began to love it again as the handling on runs out had never been so good.

After 4 years of owning the 172 i started to get itchy feet to change it. But didn't no what. Mazda RX8's looked cheap and in my price range but wasn't somet i really liked that much to own one. Then a mate pointed me in the direction of a 225 Megane id discounted these as they were miles out of my price bracket when I 1st looked, but he showed me a few online and some weren't too badly priced. So i was on a mission then to find one cause I always liked them from the moment i saw one on a billboard plus they had been at a stunt show at the NEC Motorshow a couple of years earlier. And i found one at a place called DS cars. 10k 2.5 years old couldnt believe it. I wasted no time, I rung to book an appointment went down had a look around it, test drove it and i was instantly hooked i wanted it, It was also the colour i wanted one in too. Ex RUK car so had most of the toys. So i couldn't pay the deposit quick enough and he gave me 4k for my 172 as well which i thought was really good.

1 week later I was the proud owner of a car id never thought id be able to own and to this day i still have her and still love her to bits. Nearly 9 years old and still puts a smile on my face every time i drive her. About 6 months after owning her I signed up to this forum as CS members we being a bit bitchy about a Megane being on Clio runs out despite i organised runs out myself for the Yorkshire area and was a moderator, so it was time to move on. The Guys and Gals of the Yorkshire Area were very friendly and welcoming at the very 1st meet i attended in August 2008 and its just taken off from there really to what we have today were all great friends and ive even been designated the official Yorkshire photographer. Its something i really enjoy and make great friends with like minded folk. Not just in the Yorkshire Area but further a field as well. Here's to plenty more R.S.ing to come

Liquid Yellow paint made me buy Renault :worried:

Should have got a 123d, would have suited me much better with my regular motorway driving and desire to become a roundabout drift king!! Although after a year I've finally gelled with the car and am now getting that itch to start spending!

I wanted something quicker than my previous car which wasnt too difficult to achieve, my boss had a 172 cup many years ago and i will always remember that raw feeling of it and the noise it made was ungodly which is where my interest stems from, plus it really pissed off a few of my mates who are honda fanboys

Went with my mum to look at cars for her went to vx to look at a corsa and they had a 200 in the used section liked it apart from the yellow inside test drove it and thought hmmm. My VXR was back in vx the next week for a engine noise the tech came outside and said he recommended I sell before my warranty was up as my engine was going to last past it but not by much. Got told by the bf at the time to wait 2 weeks and when he was up we would go looking at cars as I was tempted to get a 1 series coupe but was put off by driving it in the snow from Scotland to either near Salisbury or South Wales every 2 weeks in winter. He came off guard to the text deposit down on a new 200 with nearly every option possible be here November ooopsy. Think I made the right choice since he's wanting one now too. Mind you the ex told me to get a 1.4 corsa and I came back with the VXR so don't think I pay much attention to anyone xx

Fell in love with the Trophy at first but couldn't afford one when I started driving. Had a few run arounds then when I had the money fell in love all over again with the meat looky of the 197's

The rest they say is history!

Bought a 172 sport brand new on friends and family via RUK and paid £9,350!

not looked back

First Renault was a modus when I just got my license. Very practical and actually not too bad in performance when it is actually a MPV.

Got tempted to the Ford fiesta S1600 because of the stripes. Then it got stolen.

Then I want to move to the next stage, and the liquid yellow clio is the very first thing that came to mind.

Had a racing blue 182, then a 197 f1 then a 200

Enjoyed it whilst it lasted, i dont do any track days maybe thats where i went wrong but eventually the cons weighed out the pro's

Would i buy another renault . . . Im not sure lol

Got a 1998 megane hatchback when I started my apprenticeship because I needed a car ASAP.

Moved to a Megane coupe because it was slighty better, then joined up to the coupe club and people were upgrading to 172's so naturally ended up with a 172 cup.

Wanted to try a bmw but didn't really get on with it and then fancied a convertible. Eventually ended up getting a new 200 because it is awesome.

Like a couple of you, I had a Fiesta Zetec-S mk5 (two of them in fact), however the most recent one I had was getting into high mileage and I was losing interest.

The other Fords (Fiesta or Focus ST) didn't float my boat enough, I wasn't fussed for a Honda, I wasn't keen on Golfs, a Suzuki Swift Sport was an option but I didn't think it was a big enough step-up from the Fiesta.

So that left the RS Clios. My brother had previously owned a 172 Cup which I loved, however age-wise they were too similar to the Fiesta. That left the 197/200. I found an R27 in the spec I was after and fit my budget....and here I am!

I test drove a 172 in 2002 and managed to pick one up brand new for £11500, I haven't looked back since.
