197/200 gearbox ratio

Hi there, I'm having my gearbox taken out my 200 at the moment and it's being exchanged for a refurbished one. Ive been told it's being exchanged for a "late 197 box with same ratios as 200" is it correct that the late 197 boxes have the same ratio as the 200s? Many thanks in advance

This is what Richard from Rentune has told me so I'm sure it's correct but just wanted to double check for peace of mind

Well that is incorrect. Early 197 box is a TL4 003, later 197 box is a TL4 024 and the 200 boxes are all TL4 031.

003 has longer 1-3, short 5&6
024 has longer 1-3, longer 5&6
031 has shorter 1-3, longer 5&6
(all the same 4th).

TL4 003:
1st 11/35
2nd 19/37
3rd 29/43
4th 34/41
5th 38/39
6th 39/34

TL4 024:
1st 11/35
2nd 19/37
3rd 29/43
4th 34/41
5th 35/34
6th 37/30

TL4 031:

1st 11/37
2nd 19/40
3rd 27/41
4th 34/41
5th 35/34
6th 37/30

Final drive (all): 16/69

Thank you TB Rich I had a feeling they weren't the same. I was messaging Richard from Rentune and he was saying about an exchange.. My old box + £550 for a refurbished one to which i replied.
"Fine by me as long as it isn't a 197 box :tongueout:" He then replied with "It will be a later 197 box which is the same as the 200 box"

Today i dropped my car into the garage where i get all my work done getting it ready to take the box out for Monday as he said he could have it done by tuesday/wednesday this week coming and now i've said i want MY 200 box refurbishing he's telling me it won't be done until at least the end of this month as he's away from Monday....? So now i have my car stuck in a garage and no where to get the gearbox refurbished. Ugh! -.-

Got a track day booked for December 6th so need it done by then. Looking at a company called Jade Developments but been in contact with them and they won't seem to give me a price on an overall refurb. I believe they want to take it apart, see what's wrong and then quote me. I'd rather being told the price upfront and a complete refurb done to be honest! Any recommendations would be very helpful.

Thanks

I understand where Jade are coming from, but you can work off a worst case price tbh based on needing to replace the common stuff. I used Gear Link in Sailisbury, they are a local specialist and have a good knowledge of the TL4 as Ktec send them there boxes. So they've done lots of Gripper and now my Quaife too.

http://gearlink.co.uk/ I forget what I paid, was a lot but I had a couple of new syncros, obv new seals etc and also extra labour as I had another TL4 box stripped and the final drive transferred. Expect about 6-800 though depending whats done for a single box rebuild.

Complete pain in the ass as i have the box out and ready to be refurbed and I've only got around 550 - 600 max as these were the prices i was getting quoted by a few companies but maybe too good to be true! :worried: thanks for you help though TB Rich

Sorry to hear that mate. They were good with me but I only wanted parts for rebuilding a box myself. All parts were genuine. Is there any boxes on eBay?

Or Could of tried BroSport. They rebuilt mine. Based near Stoke! Give them a ring ask for Dave and tell them Chris has sent you

Tip Top Transmissions and Clutch Specialist has been recommended to me a few times. No idea on pricing yet but their Facebook page seems to have good feedback plus all box rebuilds come with 12 months warranty. Anyone heard of them?

He keeps telling me his clios 199bhp and mine will have similar power with cams lol. Zzzzz

199bhp no cams, hmmm be some sort of record wouldn't it? could be worse though like that one the other week on ktecs page, 208bhp and just a remap and panel filter!!! I'll take some of what they're smoking please

anyway we digress and I've got a flight to catch tomorrow so bed time!!!
