Advise please (TCS Renault Barnsley)

Don't know if this fits in this section but I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about or used TCS Renault Specialists Barnsley?

I'm going to need cam belt doing next service and don't fancy paying Renault prices, it might turn out I need to use Renault anywas due to having warranty from where I bought it from but I thought I see if anyone had am opinion on them anyway.

Tar!

Never used them myself, normally Harratts in Wakefield who have been excellent, however there is another Renault specialist in leeds, just off the m621. I would get a quote off each and see how cheap you can get it, especially with it being a major service.. I wouldn't worry about the warranty, dealers aren't allowed to monopolise the market and as long as Renault parts are used the warranty will be valid.

Warranty isnt affected aslong as genuine parts are used. Buy the kit off ebay and take it to a local garage max cost £200 all in...... Renaults price £500

The issue with this is that according to the specialists on the CS forum changing the belts on an F4R is very easy to get wrong, and apparently the data on Autodata is/was wrong. Plus some unique tools needed. The suggestion was that this was not a job for a garage who is not familiar with the engine.

Also, with the best will in the world this is going to be a 4+ hour job, the kit IIRC is around £100, so unless you trust your engine to someone with hourly rates of £20/hr (+VAT) you won't get it done that cheap.

Well that's good about the warranty not being affected, I just assumed with the warranty book they gave me saying "serviced in line with manufactures guidelines by manufacture approved parts and services"

I wouldn't like to take it to my local garage, they all just seem to have 19 year chavs working in them.

If that's the case Will and it's not just a simple job (as fair as cam belts go) then I won't bother at all with anyone but a dealer or specialist.
I'll give harrats a call later and also the one in Leeds.

Thanks all

Got this reply from the specialist in Leeds.
Sounds well steep to me. What do you think?

Thanks for your enquiry, our prices are as follows:
For a full service including all filters, spark plugs & Evolution oil using genuine Renault parts the cost would be £390.00 inc VAT this also includes a brake fluid change & coolant change.
The cost of a new timing belt & auxiliary belt kit is £402.48 inc VAT (its cost effective to have both belts & tensioners done together) again this is for genuine Renault parts.

Just 800 notes seems a lot. Or is this the figure I'm looking at everywhere?

That isn't just the kit, it is a fitted price for both cambelt and aux drive belt complete with tensioners and probably dephaser. Parts alone will be around the £100 mark.

I don't think £400 is bad for the belt, but the price for the service seems steep, there was a post about this on the RS forum earlier this week, parts for a full service are under £100 which makes the labour seem expensive.

Called harrats Wakefield and they said 800 too.
That's parts and the 6 hours labour for the service and belt change.

I don't think you'll get much cheaper personally and I work for a dealer

Belts are not £100 for both kits!! Going to be more like £200 for both kits and bungs needed then that labour is reasonable as it's between a 3 - 4 hour job and by the time the tax man has had his bit it's ok

Service is on the expensive side. Most places add on £100 for a coolant and brake fluid change really because it's regarded as an accessory to a service and not part of the service so if you imagine its £290. I would imagine though that if you took those prices to a dealer they would do their best to match them

Remember not to be surprised wherever you take it that you may need some extra bits like brakes / suspension bits etc so expect that you will get a call and then if you don't it's a bonus

I take it you got the Continental make belt and kit on ebay mate?

It is worth keeping what you said for future reference when I need mine done.

Timing belt kit;

http://www.worldsaparts.co.uk/clio-197/timing-belts-and-coil-packs/clio-197-timing-belt-kit.html

And I seem to recall than an aux belt and tensioner are around £25, certainly sub £30.

The aux kit is over £30 mate for sure and then the 2 bungs you need are around £10. I could personally do it and would do it for around half what dealers would charge but I am sympathetic to the amount of overheads they have compared to a 1 man band making some money for a take away

If you were closer cannit then I'd be taking you up on that mate.
But it would be 8 hours round trip just to get there and back.

Ah well, looks like I'll have to put a grand aside.

We used Harratts in Wakefield, years ago when the 197 came out. Sevice was ok but the young lad drove it out into the small yard, thrashing it. I was waiting for the wheel to spin so I could kick ass...but they never spun
