Dodgy key fob or dodgy locking system??

Right so basically in this recent cold weather i have been having problems woth unlocking and locking my car. (It also happened in normal mild weather)The other morning i couldnt unlock the car using the key card so had to get in using the key on the passenger side door. When i got to work i couldnt lock the car. So left it in the SAFE car park and went back out after clocking in and tried locking it, was pressing the button on the boot, starting the car putting the key card in, pressing the lock button inside, taking the card out pressing the key fob and then EVENTUALLY it locked. And then when i finished work it was fine, and when i got home it was fine, and also fine today eith no problems. Would just like to know what it could be.

I think the first port of call is a change of battery in the key card. I had this issue and that was the solution. It's a simple swap over and the batteries are easy to get hold of
