Something's "Not Right"

Mine's been in again to Renault Macclesfield on Mike Roberts's reccommendation.

3 warranty issues are being dealt with, but they can't find anything wrong with regards to the knocking! :@

This despite screwing the arse off it (mpg had dropped from 30 to 24 when I picked it up, over 3 miles!)

Did you demo the knocking??

I wouldn't worry too much about the MPG, they probably left it ticking over in the workshop all day... but then I can't vouch for them in that respect, I just found they were decent folk and interested in talking and listening, rather than just talking down to you.

I'd be taking the dangerous angle, i.e. what would happen if the car were to fail and you (the dealer) told me there was nothing wrong with it? They'll look harder...

Didn't have time to demo it sadly Mike. Might do when it goes back for the warranty work to be carried out though.

Yeah, not worried about the mpg tbh. Besides, the knock only betrays its presence once your powering on anyway.

On the whole though, much better to deal with than the nobs at Stockport.

After 5 pages we still haven't still got a solution to this knocking problem, i have had a good look/lever/shake at mine and cant find anything wrong so i can appreciate its not the easiest thing to pinpoint for anyone - but surely someone could've have this problem solved and let everybody else know what's causing this noise??

I personally think its in the steering column/steering rack, and judging by the price of a electric power steering assembly no wonder they're reluctant to start replacing them.

yeah its a joke now im having one last roll of the dice by getting it checked over properly when it has its 36k service at a reno specialist next month

if nothing is found then im goin to sell the car cba with it any more

ill tell you what it is. . . . its the drive shaft i have just last week changed the driveshaft on a toyota carolla for the exact same knocking noise.

Hi. I'm relatively new to the forum and already found a lot of usable information, so glad to be a member

I've got a 06 197 with around 80k km on the clock, and it also develops some strange knocks around the front right wheel. It's strange cause they don't appear all the time. And usually they appear on smaller imperfections on the road or when going over speed bumps, while there's nothing to hear on some larger potholes... When the knocks appear, it feels through the steering like something is loose around the right wheel.
Had the car at a specialist, they found some movement on both inner steering rods and both lower hub carrier ball joints, that was all sorted, but it didn't change the knocking at all. Other suspension components allegedly are fine.

So I was wondering if someone found out anything new about this problem.
