Strange knock /clonk

Hi guys,

Couldn't find much on search options but wondering if anyone knows what's up with my standard 200?

Just had mot and new front hub assembly and matching swivel /ball joints. It now drives brilliantly but is still making a clonking noise.

Everything is firm and zero movement in any suspension as far as we can tell.
Does it at slow speeds, in a straight line or turning over any slightly uneven surface. sounds like it is coming from the hub area but could it be a worn top mount?

My local Rs specialist said they can't find anything and steering rack, column, springs, hubs and link bars seem spot in.
It drives really sharp and nothing feels wrong, it's just the odd noise.

Any ideas?

Was going to suggest the link bars but looks like you've already covered this. I've got a similar sort of knock/rumble, generally can only hear it at low speeds on uneven surfaces. Mechanic had a look around it when I got discs and pads done and he couldn't find much movement anywhere/anything obvious causing it. It's going back in a couple of weeks for a service, so he's going to swap the link arms then and see if that sorts it.

If not I might well be in the same boat as you....

As per your post, definitely check the top mounts. Take the grill off and check for movement going over a speed bump perhaps.

I had a similar issue. Took it into Renault (numerous times) and they eventually replaced my shock absorber which seemed to resolve it.

I had a knock which was resolved with new shocks and top mounts. You can only really check the shocks once they are off the car though.

Got the same - turns out its the top mount and a broken coil of a front spring. Car still drives well tho.

Shock absorber could be at fault - listen to the noise I have from a brand new Koni STR.T!!

That or a top mount. Also, has the anti-rotation link been checked as they knock when worn? (the horizontal link from the hub to bottom arm)
