Also consider that the new 200T is more efficient, easier to live with day to day, more practical and in the real world faster than the old 200.

All these benefits and only a smidge slower than the more focussed old 200.
And in the real world a new 200t is probably 6k more expensive than a last of the reg 200's which would come with the 4+ package just the same.

Think one of the Renault execs has already confirmed there'll be a "more focussed" Gordini version of the 200T.

Why would you want a Williams though? 3rd worst team in F1 at present.
I agree. A red bull version with the development partly funded by the drinks firm (seeing as their branding would be seen driving about like mobile bill boards) would be a better bet all round.

They could have just dropped a detuned megane engine in if all they were chasing was ease of driving and better mpg.

Don't forget that there's no mechanical road blocks stopping them putting a manual in as the Juke has a manual gearbox on the 2wd version using the same engine.

Still can't quite comprehend the choice of going for a dual clutch myself.

octane magazine 3 way test ~ 208 gti best

Although not a thorough test its the first one Ive seen comparing the 200T/ST/208

The test rates the 208 best, mainly due to the shortcomings of the auto box in the Clio.

Because race car.

That's genuinely the only reason I can think of for them using a dual cluch.

And re: wider wings...

Of course they wouldn't have to redesign the whole car if they put wider wings on it. It's exactly what they did to the clio 1*2s, they stuck wider wings, wider bumpers and skirts onto a standard car. It was only the mk3s that got wider rear quarters.

the 208 looks worse than the 200t :nope:

but it has the same power more torque and lower co2 and better mpg but yet has a manual box....

208 best? Where did that come from? I sure wasn't expecting that...

I saw a black new clio the other day with black wheels, I had seen the new shape before in different colours but not in black. It looked really good for a base model, much nicer that its predecessor (5dr base model).

Such a shame the RS is identical. Of course it still wouldn't be for me with all these doors and no stick but at least it'd look good!

I'm not sure about the looks of the 208. The Clio I quite like, but sat in a standardish one the other day and I'm not sure on the interior. They don't have a CD player either. Just a USB and an AUX in, which have been mounted it quite possibly the worst place you can imagine.

I do quite like the sound of an auto with manual changes when required, one is getting lazy in one's old age! Lol!

I've been saying the interior looks cheap (in general) and nasty (in places) since I first sat in one. Was not impressed at all. The radio/tablet pc thing in the centre of the dash is awful looking too, didn't help that the car I was in it seemed to be broke as it wouldnt turn on, it came up with a big LG logo then flickered a few times and went black. Did that every time.

This article doesn't praise the Clio that's for sure. They also agree with Steve Sutcliffe on the gearbox being slow, they also mention bizarre ratios.

Quoting...''You feel frustrated and detached from the action...''

''Renault sadly appears to have killed the goose''.

One thing is for sure, the new clio does not get the thumbs up from the press as opposed to its predecessors. Not surprised at the slightest.

Thanks Yan, I was just wondering how i could fit the mag in the scanner!! I saw a black 208 yesterday with some tasty wheels, looked very good from the side and rear, front not as convincing.

I recall having a Escort series 1 turbo (the white one) back in 1985 and the series 2 coming out. The series 1 was very focused, handled brilliantly and was sharp as a knife. The S2 came out, softer, a basic type of ABS braking, rounder and never quite cut it. It had a great number of parallels to the Clio story.

200T vs 265 Cup

ok - it's been bugging me for a while now;

the price of the new clio 200T is, from what I can see, a joke.

A White (free paint) spec'd with the cup pack and that new telemetry system is only £3,075 cheaper than the cheapest 265 Cup. Through a LY in the case and its only £1,775!!

Now I'm sorry, but if you're spend that much money on a car, why on earth wouldn't you want the megane?

Rant - Over

p.s. I am aware that once you spec a megane up, the gap is pushed up 3-4k, but still. The gap is too small.

I drove a 208 GTi yesterday. Warmed it up for 15 minutes and give it some real stick on a B road.

It's very, worryingly a lot, tail happy. I threw it into a left hander and the rear wanted to be over the other side of the road!

Safe to say the salesman was happy when I ended up back at the showroom.

He even said; "no-ones really gave it that much stick so far."

Also, the 208 has no CD - only that touch screen thing with USB and Aux.

If the clio is worse than that 208, I don't want to drive it!

Give me my 200 any day!

Which is really odd because when I parked my 200 alongside a mk4 Clio, mine looked huge!

In isolation thy look bloated and mpv like but up close and alongside other cars I think they look fantastic. Th front end of my 200 looks so last decade by comparison.

I still think tge front end of the 200 looks awesome, just so mean and different from everything else out there. Anyone else agree??????
