reverse lights not working

got to finally have the car today and drive it, noticed the reverse lights don't work and also i believe the previous owner has put bright white bulbs in the side lights and they sometimes (not always) flicker any advice on this do i just swap back to standard? thanks guys!
 
Might be the reverse switch on the gearbox, pretty easy to do, I had to remove battery and the plastic cover to get to it and I think it's a 24mm socket. If you don't get the rear wiper come on when you wack it into reverse in the rain with auto-wipers on then it will be the switch but if it does come on then most likely be fuse or bulbs
 
it hasn't got auto wipers so i don't know about that I'm trying to get used to all the electronics in the car as I've only had it a day my dad just noticed they wasn't on when reversing i swapped the bulbs ill try checking the fuse tomorrow when i've got some light cheers mate
