Powder coated calipers

hi guys..i've thinking of getting my calipers powder coated..mine are just brush painted and the do get dirty and there is nothing i can do to make them look fresh again without repainting them..a bit tired of doing that every couple of months..
how does it work?i've good the Hell braided hoses so clamping them off wont work + i need the car on a daily basis...
how did u have urs done??how much am i looking at roughly??any advice is appreciated..thanks

We have a trader that sends them out and then you send him your old ones back.

Powder coating is the way forward mate, gives a good finish and is far more durable. The only downside is sometimes slight bubbling in the coating due to 'gassing' of the metal during the baking process.

I guess it would be far more costly as well as you'd need to completely strip all tho calipers

so what r u saying Rogue???just keep painting them over a few times a year..??tbh not a big deal but would be nice to have silky smooth calipers with not much of a maintenance needed

I sent mine off to be professionally painted.

You won't need to paint them ever again unless you chip them. I used a company in Nottingham, they weren't overall expensive.

Was this the Brake caliper specialist?

I sent my Movits there to get done and it ended up being a bit of a pain in the arse tbh...everything was an extra, and it took about 6 weeks to get them back. The calipers do look good tho.

I would imagine powder coating will require all seals to be removed as the temperature powder coating bakes at would damage them?

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin".
so i guess so...

Yes powder coating the callipers will require the removal of all seals. easy peasy on the fronts, pain in the arse on the rears. (Until you know the secret )

Daft question but is their a reason you are using a brush over a spray can job?

thats a good question..thought spraying them is a bit more messy and dont really want to remove them as i would have to bleed them...and that is my biggest enemy :tongueout:anic:
might get away with leaving them on i suppose and cover the arches and discs..

But you would have to remove them to be powder coated anyway is what I'm getting at.

Or leave them on and only spray that can be seen and cover everything else.

cheers for that..thats why i needed a bit of an advice..just wanted to know how all this works..might pay a hallfords store a visit tomorrow and see what they have to offer to spray them rather than brush paint...plus wanted to know how long it takes..there is a place (been told) in Manchester where u can have ur wheels, calipers etc powder coated so would not have to wait too long..might give them a call..my mate told me that they want £20 a wheel..could this be true???
